What do you really like or dislike about your sofa upholstery?

I am in need of purchasing upholstery fabric for 2 sofas. What fiber content, style, color, etc do you have a strong opinion about? Do you know a brand you suggest? I would like something that doesn't pill or get fuzzy, cleans up easily, is durable, and will look good 15 years from now. I like leather, but not for this situation. Thanks to all for sharing!

Good luck...I haven't found anything that holds up like that except leather. Let us know if you find anything.

I had a dark grey microsuede couch and loved it. It was beautiful, cleaned up really easily and withstood the test of time!

@Sandy I wish I could give you more hard detail on it, but honestly Im not 100% sure. I did show "strokes" of sorts sometimes, just the way the material is. But it looked like it was supposed to do that :) I got it from a family who was moving and found it for a steal on Craigslist. They said it was high quality and they originally paid in the thousands for it- I snatched it up for $500! For cleaning I mainly just took a vacuum attachment and a microsuede cleaner. It was easy as pie!

I am considering redoing y love seat and ottoman. I would like an answer too. It really depends, I guess, on whether you have children or pets or if you have dinner in front of the TV every night and tend to spill things. That's where the cleaning feature comes in. I have seen some nice sofa covers that you can throw in the washing machine; but some of them are so expensive, you might as well buy the upholstery fabric and redo them.upholster them.

I have micro fiber sofa and love seats with dogs and kids. I had them scotch guarded when I purchased them 8 years ago. They clean up very well. The fabric has been spilled on soaked by dogs, sodas, and all kinds of stuff and has held up beautifully. The only drawback to the material is that it melts with hot ashes. My husband was smoking and knocked off hot ashes and melted a couple of small holes in it. Other than that, this stuff rocks.

I only buy leather. It last, we wallow on it, most importantly we have animals. I can wipe it, clean it and it last forever.

    Be careful about bonded leather

I have heard negative things about it too Kelley. I want quality, and something that will look nice.

Bonded leather falls apart and rubs off. The process is to bomb leather scraps and seconds onto a fabric piece and use that to make furniture. Not very durable in the long run but is much cheaper. I have seen some terrible looking pieces after light use, no kids or animals, in less than a year. If the leather furniture is priced cheap, might be bonded....
