Removing cat urine from ceder

Question

I have a ceder chest that belonged to my husband's great aunt. We kept it in the basement next to our youngest son's room.  Well his cat decided that the sheet that was covering it to (protect from scratches) was hers to pee on instead of her litter box.  She was actually protesting against the litter we bought for her. My question is how do I get the smell out, the wood is soaked.

I had a terrible issue with one of my cats protesting the arrival of our dog. The only product that works is called Fizzion. It's a tablet you mix with water. It degrades the proteins in the cat urine. With wood, you may have to let it soak in and it will probably takes a few treatments. I've used the enzymatic cleaners like Natures Miracle and Anti-Icky-Poo (real name lol) but Fizzion has worked the best for me. You can get it from Amazon or Home Depot

I had success with household bleach and water mixed 4 parts water to 1 part bleach, let soak in and cry, cat pee bubbles to surface and can be scraped and removed. May need multiple coats. if that doesn't completely get rid of it, you may have to seal the wood with KILZ oil based primer. You'll save the chest but not the cedar smell.

I have also used SCOE 10X. I have had amazing results. Just make sure you use as directed. You should soak it completely and let it dry. You may have to do this multiple times. scoe10x.com

Vinegar & water in spray bottle, spray several times, set it the sun to dry.

The product 'Get Serious' is the best product I have found to remove the smell and stain from cat urine. It has removed the smell from wooden baskets, so it may work on the wood of your chest. You have to follow the directions exactly - I got a baby brush to scrub the spots and activate the product, - worked GREAT!  And removed the smell and stain from a white brocade upholstered chair. I got Get Serious at PetSmart
