The Time Table - Zentivity Designs

After much repair and primer - looking good!
I inherited this funky wood table from a dear friend. She was just 16 inches tall, but had wheels and a cute secret drawer. It begged a re-do. So, off I sprinted into re-do-land. I wood putty'd and sanded and fixed and sanded again. Then painted everything except for the laminate top with a nice white oil-based primer. And then I decided what this baby needed was some very original decoupage!
Cut and spray and paste times a million!
I printed and then cut out a big bunch of vintage clock faces and then drove my husband nearly bonkers by arranging and then re-arranging the faces on top of the table in different ways. I was determined to find a balance between size and coverage and symmetry. It was not easy! My last decoupage experience was *okay* but I wanted more control over the medium because I was afraid that the Mod Podge (used to tack down the paper) might soak through and make it mushy OR make the ink bleed. So, before glueing anything down I sprayed the front and back of each clock face with a spray sealant and let it dry completely. THEN I coated each and every clock face (fronts then backs separately) and let that dry. It protected the prints AND created a thicker medium for the tabletop. (A lot of work, seriously!) But worth it.

Here's a detail of the drawer interior! I also painted the outside of the drawer. In my opinion, it's the little surprises that matter.
This is the finished project (sans the drawer handle). I painted the outside rims of the table in a barn red, added 2 vinyl clock hands in gold, and painted the table wheels black. Two coats of poly and voila! The Time Table!

After you lined the inside of the drawer with the decoupaged clocks and let it dry, did you then coat that with poly, too, or just the table top?

Hi Jen, Yes I did. I coated it in about 3 coats of sealant (poly). Let me know if you have any more questions!
