How can you soften granulated sugar?

Don't use sugar very often - and it really got hard in the pantry in the original bag. The 5 pound block is really as hard as a brick. Any advice?

Put a slice or two of plain white bread inside the bag and seal it or place it inside a large plastic zippie bag with the bread and seal it. Leave it alone for a day or so. It should soften it right up.

@ @AvonelleRed Thanks! I shall try that! Easy to do. I know that keeps cookies soft but didn't consider it with the hard sugar.

@Joan Brooke my mother always used a slice of apple to soften the hardened sugar.

Either bread or apple will work. It just needs to be rehydrated.
