Advice on using bar wood for flooring

Question

Need the do's and don'ts in this project. Would like for my kitchen and counters to be out of the same wood.

Do you have the wood you will already be using? Or do you need advice on where to get it? @Rosemarie Christopher when you say Bar Wood? What are you speaking about? Wood from a bar top? Or some sort of other wood? 
Some woods are ok for using on floors, but not on counters. Normally counters are done using a hardwood such as maple. Bit pricey but really great surface that takes a beating. But using that on a floor it can become quite expensive. 
In any case what exactly is Bar Wood can you provide more information so we can help.
