They are beautiful and a good size. Can they stay in the pond during the colder months since you are in Fla?

I would love to have a pond with koi fish - they are so beautiful and unique!. I recently saw the largest koi fish I have ever seen at the Bronx Zoo - they were probably at least 1.5 feet long. Huge!

Oh Jeff I so miss my Koi fish...:( I lived in Clearwater Florida for 8 years and then moved to Holiday for 6 years... My Husband and I bought a foreclosure there and Fixed it up... The yard was in real bad shape cactus's everywhere and just really run down ...There was an in ground pool in the back yard and and the back yard was like a desert...we fixed it up real nice and I decided that I wanted a fish pond in my back yard... By the time I was finished with it My Hubby called it the ...»
Million Dollar Pond LOL! I had some really pretty Koi 4 Beautiful White ones with huge Fan tails and 6 huge multi colored orange/wht/blk spotted ...they were so pretty ...One Day i walked outside to go take a dip in the pool and I noticed a crane on the roof top of the neighbours house and he had one of my orange multi colored ones in his mouth he was one of the smaller ones ...I rushed outside yelling at him and saying nasty things to it, Waving my arms around in the air and then I looked down and saw 2 of the white ones and an Orange Multi Lying on the ground in front of the pond... I buried my babies in the back yard and cried for the rest of the day Sad sad sad..:(...I ended up Wrapping my pond with fishing line to keep the Cranes out... It seem to work... I now live in Southern Il so now I don't have a pond But I sure do miss them They are very relaxing to watch and are very smart fish too... they really know when it's Feeding time LOL!...Thank you for bringing back memories... Cheers! and Enjoy your beautiful Fish♥

Aww Tania that's sad! If you ever have a pond again try putting a fish cave or a tunnel where the fish can hide in case there is a predator around. Currently there is a hawk eyeing my fish but so far all is good. Thanks for sharing

I've thought about it Jeff trust me but I don't think My hubbys to keen on it especially how much I spent on the last one LOL! and plus he think that the fish would freeze up here in the winter? I've seen others with Koi fish around here but I think the ponds are deeper than we had in Florida Maybe I'll keep working on him sooner or later he'll CAVE! Hehe He always does ..;) and good Idea on the fish Cave Idea BTW I wish I had thought of that ..I did have a little Bridge for them to swim ...»
under but I guess it just wasn't enough for that Dang Crane..:( Cheers!

Tania, you can definitely have a pond up where you live it won't hurt the koi and it can be as little as 2 feet deep and they will still be fine even when it freezes over. Kio go dormant in the winter and just sit on the bottom and don't move much at all. check out aquascapeinc.com for all the best information on water gardening they are in west Chicago. you're the woman so you will get what you want lol
