Can floor heat installed under tile also be continued into shower area if I use a rubber membrane?

  • Floor heat can be used only under the dry areas of the bath. No heater tape is allowed below the shower pan area. Regardless of how well you water proof the floor, there is always a risk of leaks, if not from the rubber membrane but from around the drain pipe. You can however use a Hydronic type floor heating system, but that requires a boiler and water lines be installed. Very expensive for a small area that really warms up in a few seconds once you turn on the water.
  • See you learn something every day! However I still would never do that. Not even some codes would allow that. I would think however the cables would be embedded into the mud floor and the water proofing would be over the top. Perhaps a Kirdi system? IN any case not worth the effort. AS soon as the shower turns on the floor becomes warm.
