I have an unfinished bath and shower project. Help!

The shower has original tile on the ceiling and surrounds the outside. A 6" area that surrounds the shower is exposed wood, no wall board and I cannot find anyone interested in taking on this little project. So at 71 I'm going to do it myself- hopefully with help of this site.
Is there such a product that is tile on wallboard that I can have cut to side or will I have to cut the waterproof wall board and put up first? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • sounds as though your trying to use a pre made tile board for your shower. I suggest that you do not go that route as it will not last long and it will leak. This is a project that with a little guidance can be done by the average home owner. First we need some better ideas of what exactly it is your doing. Your description is a bit difficult to understand. Perhaps if you can take a few photos showing the existing shower so we can get an idea of what condition its currently in and what is needed to complete we can give you some great DIY methods of completing it. So lets start with some photos and we will follow this and help you out!

Are there any technical or vocational schools in your area? If there is a plumbing department, you might contact the instructor of your job and use this as a teaching tool. It's like getting your hair cut/permed, etc. at a beauty school. The instructor is there to oversee but the students do the work. It could just cost you materials only. I'm going to do this for my mom's fireplace hearth that needs repaired and she's 75. Hope this helps!

Yes a pic. I'm in Louisville and I can see about having an installer contact you if they know what they are up against
