Cedar Provence Table Knockoff for $230

You can tell someone is big on entertaining when they ask you to build a 10 foot dining table. That's what my mom requested me to build her over Easter weekend. They had a couple of mis-matched outdoor dining sets that were falling apart. Sad, right? You spend $500 or more on glass and metal for it to fall apart after a few years. I found plans via the Design Confidential and made a few edits. (http://www.thedesignconfidential.com/2011/04/free-diy-furniture-plans-to-build-a-restoration-hardware-inspired-provence-beam-dining-with-4x4s) Mainly I used 4x4's for the legs so it looks more like the RH original. We chose cedar for it's lasting outdoor and bug resistant properties. My mom is thrilled with her new table and gets compliments on it all the time! Materials were only $230, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the 4K plus she would have spent in stores. More details on the build are on my blog.

This will be around for generations! What a nice big table for family gatherings. I hope you carved your initials in it somewhere so future generations will know who build this wonderful dining table. My dad build one for my sister and her seven kids when the kids were little. Now they are all grown but that table means a lot to them because of all the nicks and scratches that they put on it thru the years. Your table looks strong enough that if a storm came, you could hide under it!

Donna I didn't but I need to! It's a very sturdy table. The best part is that since it's made of cedar, it's a lot lighter than it looks. Two people can easily pick it up to move it.

This is gorgeous! I have been thinking of something like this in my head for my patio area to have dinner parties and string some of those pretty light bulb lights above! My husband and I just may have to attempt this :) Question going through my head is: where would I store it during a Michigan winter? hmmm. I'm assuming it would get ruined leaving it out through the winter?
