My kitchen counter is looking tired. I don't want to go to the expense and effort to replace it. How can I bring it too life?

@Crowe Devona ...I would sand down your counter tops using an 80 grit paper and use an acrylic paint ..Good luck ..

Rust-oleum makes a special paint you can use for painting laminate countertops. Just make sure the countertops are very clean before painting.

A few yrs ago I painted my bathroom vanity top. I'd seen this done on a site about doing things on the cheap. After I finished, I decided I wanted something else, so gave this one away and bought a granite top. I sanded the vanity top, primed it, then got creative trying to create something resembling granite. Topped it with a couple of coats of poly. I think I used oil-based poly but it's been a while so don't remember. One reason I decided I didn't want it anymore was that the poly yellowed the color a bit.

Based on personal experience, I would stay away from the Rustoleum kit. We did it in our kitchen about 2 years ago. it was nice at first but is chipping like crazy now. Fortunately a new kitchen is in next year's budget!

I painted my powder room vanity white (it was oak) and also the countertop laminate to look like carrara marble. It was very dark browns and black and grays. Dismal. Now I love the fresh clean look. It's holding up beautifully.

I did it once, it was easy and lasted really well. Any good paint store will tell you what to use and usually a sea sponge is what's used to make it look like good.
