Concrete & Masonry Flooring Tiling

Getting Started with HardieBacker: Give Your New Bathroom Floor Tile a Strong Foundation

I don't like the look of cracked bathroom floor tiles. Unfortunately I have a bathroom that suffers from this problem.

I'm sharing some tips on how to avoid this catastrophe by using HardieBacker cement board. This type of cement board helps prevent cracks in porcelain or ceramic tile and has a moldblock technology that stops, well, mold.

These cement board panels are really great for DIYers because they're easy to cut and handle. You can buy boards and place them in a standard car trunk because they're 36 inches by 60 inches. Just make sure your back seats fold down :)

I share a lot of tips on how to lay out HardieBacker in my latest post here http://www.homerepairtutor.com/install-bathr...

I insisted on the backer board on the sink wall that is exposed to water plus of course the floor. My fellow was as careful sealing my backer board as he was with the grout and sealants on finished areas, Bet I could take an outside hose to my bath and it would not soak in a drop. That's awesome Nancy, it's also very reassuring that water won't ruin your project.
