  • You need first to determine why the drive is sinking. Sometimes it is because the builder removed a large tree on that spot and left the stump under the drive. As it decays over time it creates a hole that begins to cause the soils and in your case the drive to fall in. There are many other reasons why this occurs. And you really need to determine what is going on. One way to correct, and this is dependent upon the type of surface your driveway has. If it is cement, I suggest that you have a mud jacking company come in and restore it. They will drill a hole through the cement cap and pump a slurry of Portland cement and clean soil mixed with water into the ground under pressure. As the hole begins to fill it will force the cement drive slab back up to the level spot it was once in. After a few days your good as new. If its a asphalt drive or stone, You will simply need to dig a bit to determine why its sinking and then back fill and tamp with soil and stone until its level again so you can restore the surface. Check with your homeowners insurance, this may be covered. Some policy's cover some strange stuff and it does not hurt to ask. How big is the sinking? Be sure not to park on that area until its looked at. You may want the township to come out if its bad. There could be something much worse going on that is not safe. Sink holes are found all over the world. While Florida is pretty bad, its not unheard of to find them elsewhere.
