Re-Purposing an Armoire Top For Free!

We found this top armoire hutch about to be thrown out by an individual because the

bottom cabinet hutch had been damaged badly by a moving company during a move across a few states. It was a beautiful solid wood piece - and the top had no damage at all. So we loaded it up - took it home, and began the process of making a new life for it.

We had needed to add some cabinets or something in our kitchen to display and hold our stainless pots and pans - and this was perfect for it!

We flipped it over - and began by building a new top out of some left over birch plywood we had on hand. I added new trim to the plywood top to match the piece - and then stained the top black to add some contrast.

We then set about unscrewing the shelves and doors and reset them all upside down to be right side up :).

Next we unhooked the drawer slides - installed a center piece of wood to hold the slides and re-installed the drawers to now be right side up. ...»

Now we have a great piece that holds all of our stainless cookware, bowls and room on top for cutting boards and display items.

What a creative repurpose idea Jim and Mary. Do you ever close the doors? It looks as though it's too close to the refrigerator (just like ours) to open and close them.

Thank you Becky - We actually like to display the pots and pans - and we use them so much that we just leave it open. They are the old pull out piano style hinges though - so with just a little move of it we can get them to shut.

You're welcome. When you have beautiful pans like yours I can see why you chose to display them. I was more curious about what the doors looked like than hiding the cookware.

No problem - I took a quick picture with one close so you could see:

Oh that was sweet of you! Thank you. The doors are very nice. I can't imagine tossing that just because the base was damaged, but lucky for you they weren't as creative at you are!
