I'm not sure which, but some of the plants do not stand erect. Can you tell me the cause of this?

  • Hi Richard, Zinnias are "full sun" flowers, however Florida's "full sun" may be too much sun. You may try providing some shade for them, our morning- early afternoon sun may be enough but the the afternoon sun on top could be too much. The plants often end up growing faster than the root system can develop. Are they getting enough water? And how many hours of sun do they receive?

Water is adequate, it is irrigated. I'll be home tomorrow all day and I will watch the sun more closely. I don't think they get sun all day. Recently lost some large trees and I may be way off. Thanks.

Richard, does the base of the plant appear at all "mushy" or does it seem healthy?

Sometimes seeds do not have good contact with the soil when you sow them. The weight of the emerging seedling pulls the root up and the seedling gorws at an angle. You can re-seat the seedling to get it to stand up straight.
