Ornate mirror

The large mirror in my bathroom is very old and VERY ornate gold frame. I'm a renter so I can't just remove the mirror but I can change or up date the look. Any ideas?

Would you be allowed to paint it? Don't know what the rest of the room is like, so don't know if this would work for you or not..I painted an ornate mirror turquoise-- brushed dark glaze on to settle in crevices-wiped off--added a coat of poly. Turned out great!

Chalk paint would be easy, also rustoleum paint & primer come in many nice colors...oil rubbed bronze, silver, etc.
