Earlier this year I mentioned wanting to make a toad habitat and now it is complete. I've already had a few visit the "waterhole." You can read the whole story and get instructions @ http://hometipster.com/creating-a-toad-habit...
Oh My Gosh - when I read the heading I instantly thought 'BINGO'!!! We are on the same wave length Sherri!! But IT WAS NOT your fault that it didn't work. Just not great time of year! Definitely putting this on my clip board. Thanks for great info Dee!
@Sherrie0you failed no one, it just didn't work out.
Your welcome Susan, I remember your previous efforts and felt bad it didn't work out but am glad to hear you are still willing to give it the "good ole' college try" :>)
@Sherri-maybe try just settng out some pots next spring and see how it goes. Took me 3 years to get my plants established so I didn't need to buy them all, patience, patience, patience. :>)
Oh I am involved - just don't have a specific habitat for toads or frogs!! We feed all the birdies, have bluebird boxes and a regular birdhouse. A birdbath, 3 hummer feeders and a cat & dog!! I am involved!! LOL
Susan, you don't really need to "carve out" a specific spot just for them. I put mine where I already see them. By the rain barrels I have more huts and pipes and most people don't have a clue they are there. I just made the location in the backyard a little more showy and designated.
Actually, I DO have a specific place now that I think about it. I have a "shade garden" w/ferns and I put in stepping stones I made so really all I'd have to do is dig out an area to put a "water vessel" of some sort in, add a few rocks - NO DROWNINGS - and I should be set!! Isn't it getting a little late in the season to start attracting frogs or toads though??
yes and no. the time to have your piping in is very soon. I am in NEOhio and my guys will begin hibernating by the end of Oct. If they don't have a place near where they feed they will look elsewhere. If you have any toads around now it is because of food and they would be delighted to have a place to over-winter. On the other hand many people do suggest waiting until spring-because of the laying of eggs. I am not set up for that but my toads have a spot nearby they use and come to my

yard for food and lodging. I would personally suggest if you have the time, put in your piping and huts now and be done with it for the winter. This way you can have a little more time to figure out what type of watering hole you want to put in next year and not be fighting the spring rains, muddy ground, weeds and cold weather trying to get it all done.
I tried and failed to help her.
