I RECYCLED A SINGLE BED HEADBOARD INTO A BEAUTIFUL WALL ACCESSORY

I made this from a padded single bed headboard.I found two of them at a local salvage store. After removing the padding and legs I painted the frames and added mirrors that I had cut at a local glass company. My husband drilled holes in the mirrors with a diamond drill bit, and after hanging them on the wall, I drove a nail in the hole of each mirror and hung the candle sconces on the nails. The other one hangs on the opposite wall. These are in the bathtub alcove of my master bath. Love Them!

Nice job. How much does it cost to have a mirror custom-cut?

Steve, I don't recall the exact cost. It has been a while since we did them. It depends on the quality of glass and the size, of course. I would say a minimum of $20 each.

Pat, this is gorgeous and such a wonderful idea. You two did a great job making a custom one of a kind (two of a kind) beautiful, decorative, and functional piece.

Thanks for the answer. That's more reasonable than I realized. I will have to remember that. Thanks.

Thanks, everyone! I''m sure these are one of a kind......actually two. I am always on the lookout for things that I can transform into something functional and/or decorative. In times past I have found some really good "decorators' road kill" aka junk on the side of the road, but don't see much any more. I love thrift stores, too. Never know what you will find there!

I meant to ask but forgot. Do you have a before to share? It's always interesting to see what something looked like in it's original state.

Becky, sorry I don't have before pics. At the time we made these I had no idea that I would be sharing. I do remember how ugly they were!! The frame was green (kind of like the avocado that was so popular several years ago, and the fabric cover over the padding was gosh awful big bold blue Flowers and greenery; and I think I remember some white mingled in.

It looks like frames now. Was the padded area framed with what is framing the mirror now? I'm totally confused. I guess I really don't need to know. Just curious. It sure looks pretty now.

Yes, the padding was attached to a board that fit into the frames. I took the padded boards out of the frame & replaced it with the mirrors.

Oh so it was easier than I thought. Thanks for clearing that up for me. It could be you explained it perfectly, but I've been sick with what was most likely food poisoning the past few days so my brain is a little fried. I appreciate your taking the time to explain Pat. Thanks. I guess since I've never seen a bed that like that I just wasn't getting it.

So sorry you have been so sick. Hope you are feeling much better now! I can understand that it might be confusing since I did not explain about the board. I was somewhat surprised when I found these, because I had never seen a headboard like them either! Someone, somewhere, had a vivid imagination when they created them. Who knows.......they might have been mirrors originally!! :) I haven't done any "trash to treasures" lately, but Hometalk & Pinterest makes me want to get back into ...»
it. I love seeing what others are creating, and just knowing that there are so many creative folks that I can connect with is really motivating me to get back into it!

Thank you Pat. By body is healing. No more "getting sick", but I'm still very weak. Had our grandson not been here I could have slept another couple hours I'm sure. He's so good though. Just like his Daddy was when he was little.

Wouldn't that be funny if somehow you found out the beds you found were once mirrors?

When I'm healthier, soon I hope. I have a whole load of projects to finish and share here. I ...»

love that about Hometalk and Pinterest too. Though I must admit I've lost interest in Pinterest since I found HT.
