I love this bench, but I wanted to lighten up the kitchen. I decided to paint it white, then I used paint pens to doodle special memories onto it. Makes a great conversation piece and can be passed down generation to generation...
People usually get upset when there are nicks and scratches on their furnishings and understandably so. But I think this is a beautiful and traditional idea. Thank you for posting.
Julie - "HE" turned out fantastic! Did you see the post awhile back about the Bridal Bench Guestbook? Your idea is a long those lines w/the writing on it! Love how it turned out!!
Thanks Susan! How cool! I did not see it, but I will look for it (do you know the link?)! Was it a guest book type thing? That would be a great idea as well. Wish I would have thought of that 18 yrs. ago for our wedding! I was actually inspired by a fellow blogger, Sherry, from Pondered, Primed , Perfected (http://ponderedprimedperfected.blogspot.com/2012/08/free-table-transformed-to-game-table.html). have, then I saw her post with paint markers. It actually looked horrible at first, but then I figured just keep writing and see what happens. It all fell into place after that! :)

Thank you...it didn't work, but I just found quite a few benches like mine on-line. Guess I'm not the first or the last I am sure. It's a great way to treasure the memories. If I would have thought of it I would have had it at our reception for sure!
Yeah, I tried what I had c&p'd too from my answer above and it didn't work. However, did you do the search here on HT in the search box? Wedding Guestbook Bench and it took me there.
Oh Good!! I think both of these benches are great ideas and really give a very personal touch. I like the way yours ties in w/the rug. Did you also stencil the rug yourself??
In 1965, at my friend's wedding., everyone signed a platter that I made in ceramics class. The bridal couple still have the platter. I also have a small desk that my mom had when she was a child, (1912-1992) I painted her desk, antiqued it, and since 1995, all visitors to my home, sign the desk with a magic marker. It has already become an heirloom. Love this idea, it's so personal.
