Seemingly it turned out good. Our front door is open there is no covering. We actually like it. I dont want to add curtains unless sheer or blinds because it takes away from the door. So I found this iron piece that I can mount to the outside and the piece is beautiful. My only worry is will it be too much and once I mount it to the glass there is no turning back. Should I mount it or leave the door decorated as I have done it ? Thank you for all the input:) Also the mirror will be removed from the center
Front door before
Front door after
a close up colors are red, chocolate brown and cream
numbers I added painted as well as painted the light fixtures
iron piece i want to mount to the outside of the door
a better look

Are you planning to removed the "grid" from the door? the new metal thing is cool but if it is used with the grid I think it will look too busy...removing the grid will detract for the grids on the side lights. Perhaps painting the door the color of your roof and doing the red trim in white to match your columns?

Agree. Either grid or iron piece. Tasha, a side note: try to find another option for the downspout other than on the column. CP Tasha, watch for my post for an idea of how to work with a downspout solution.

The "grid" is actually on the iside of the glass. You cannot feel them they look like they are on the out side but are actually in the middle of the glass. The Cream/Tan trim is that same color as my columns I put some swatches together to stay in the same family. The color choices on the outside I love how Ive painted it and its pretty with out the iron piece its just since I have painted the space seems more open and you can see in, which we like but we thought the iron piece would add elegance. Being that the grids are in between the glass the iron piece will mount directly to the glass..It looks pretty Im just afraid if I put it up and one day want to remove it...
  • I would agree about being cautious with hanging the iron piece. I actually think you could pull it off with the mullions in the glass, but think that once you get it up - if you have an issue with the mounting or the weathering of the iron, the door would be ruined. I have a partial glass front door with these type of mullions and, like you, I liked and needed the natural light from the door. I ended up using a simple window film (etched lace) to cover it - and it looks great! I admire it every time I walk to the front door. Check out all the options they have @ Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Navigation?storeId=10051&categoryID=548668&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&cm_sp=ab4bfd68-71b6-4c6d-9280-79de0666055c You could do one design on the door and then a complimenting one on the sidelights! I had the clear glass on the door for years after moving into our home, but finally decided I really liked the view into our home to be blocked. With two tiny kids, it made me feel very secure and I didn't have to sacrifice the natural light!

Peace and painting I agree it was there when we moved in could we have that redone? Also AK now that is a wonderful idea. This way it won't take away from the paint desingn I created! I'm going to go to Home depot unfortunately I cannot remove the grids they are inside and I'd have to have the glass replaced and kinda think they are unique and match... Hhmm now I'm thinking;)

I think you have done a great job in repainting your door. I would love to do something different with mine as well; but I would be very leary of something that is permanent. I would try a temporary fix if possible just to see who it looks when you come home each day. It may not be busy at all and might just grow on you. I think the piece is beautiful

Thanks Audra... And go for it. My color choice was reversed lol... But I switched it and painted over it and this was the right match. Good thing about paint you can repaint...;) the door piece looks pretty when you hold it up I'm just thinking me being me I may get tired and want to pull it down:(
  • Very well done, I would not have thought that little red can make so much of a difference. This is out of the box thinking!

Like the door. Good advice here. I would at least paint the downspout white. Should always match trim. I had the same issue and made them move mine to the side of the column. Still not perfect but better.

great idea..the trim is a mocha cream color if we cannot have it moved I guess painting it to make it blend would be our only option...sometimes builders make me SMH...:)

Love the new paint on the door and the piece is very pretty. If it will not damage the door, I say go for it if you really love it!

Beautiful door..and little person standing inside looking out!!:)
  • Nice touch with the red trim. Really adds some impact and the white makes the door a nice focal point.
  • Love the door -- especially the pop of red. I don't have any suggestions on mounting that iron piece, but it would sure look amazing!

love the metal piece but not sure I would like it on the door also remember it will make cleaning the glass on the outside of the the door difficult

Tasha, revisiting... I was looking at that piece and had an idea you might want to consider if you already have not. Since you got so many compliments already on the door, maybe it is best left as it is. That piece is so ornate I am thinking it deserves a place of its own. It would be beautiful hung as wall art over a bed or even a long window or anywhere else it would work. You could even hang it vertically in a more narrow place if that is what works. I think the only way to put it in the door would be to have it installed into some glass and the have it inserted in the door. That would be a lot of trouble and expensive. The other way you have a lot more freedom to enjoy it.
