The vintage bedroom

After pulling up ugly carpet (to find beautiful hardwood floors) taking out drop celing and adding color to the walls, I finally gave the bedroom a new refreshing look. Also I loved these twin headboards and found a way to incorporate them..

WOW Jamala!!!! That room is absolutely breathtaking! What a smart idea to use the old twin headboards above the windows as an architectural embellishment! It looks like you ended up w/nice high ceilings - not the typical 8' after removing the dropped part. How lucky was that!! Everything in this room is just perfection and a compliment to the Victorian Era!!

Jamala, outstanding! What type hardware did you have to use to mount the headboards as cornice boards, given their weight? The semicircular chest is beautiful and unique.

Thank you Pat & Becky. To mount the headboards I used picture hanging wire. Luckily they weren't extremely heavy. I appreciate your compliments.

Wow Jamala! I wonder how I missed this for two days! It's absolutely gorgeous! Every single detail. And how brilliant that you used twin headboards on your windows! Very Victorian looking.

I just can't imagine why anyone would drop a ceiling that low - to the top of the window, good grief!! Looks like it was around 18" or so!! Sure glad you removed it and I know you are too!!

That happened quite often because of the cost of heating Susan S. Heat rises and during the mid century when ceiling fans were not commonly used it saved money to drop the ceilings. Now one just reverses the fans to circulate the heat.

it gets cold at night down to about 30 but during the day it goes back up to 60 during the winter months

That sounds like fall here. I could live with that through the winter months! There are days it doesn't make it to 30 here in the winter. We often have days of sub zero temps during the days in January. Brrrr.......

I pretty much stay inside when it's cold only going out when I absolutely have to and then it's usually on a "warm" day. Once I get used to it 30 something degrees doesn't bother me if I'm just in and out shopping.

Becky, I know what you mean about the temps. A quick in and out is ok, depending on where you had to park! What I hate is when the wind is tearing - there just ain't no stayin warm then!!

The wind is almost always blowing out here. We live in the highest point and since the houses aren't close there's no protection. It wouldn't be so bad if I'd get rid of all the furniture that's being stored in my side of the garage. Actually it's Darrell's side of the garage, but since he leaves for work early he'll be using my side this winter. Again.
