Found this table & chairs at a yard sale.....painted it & reupholstered the chairs

I paid $20 for this....yes I said $20!!! After painting and recovering the chair seats, I carried it to a local downtown antique mall where, at the time, I was selling on consignment. Scottsboro, AL, where I live, is widely known for its First Monday Trade Days in the downtown square. It is held the first Monday of every month, and draws a large out of town crowd on Labor Day weekend. I finished them just barely in time for the Labor Day event. It sold that weekend for over $300!! (The rooster theme was really hot in kitchen decor at the time).

Now that's a really nice return on your investment!! I love the chicken & checkerboard theme and the red stripes on the seats is the perfect accent! I'll bet you almost hated to see them go!!

Pat, you made this into a darling dinnette set. The colors and design make it a cheerful place for that first cup of coffee in the morning. The price you received upon selling it reflects the amount of work you put into it to make it an asset in anyone's home.

Thank you Susan & Becky. I did get attached to them, but had no room for them in my home. I had lots of hours invested in them, and was glad that the person who purchase them recognized that! I had a call later from a lady that had seen them at the antique mall and when she went back they were already sold. She wanted a set like that but was not willing to pay for my time.

Pat that's the unfortunate part of most artistic work. People don't always appreciate the many hours it take to create these beautiful pieces. I hope you have more things to share w/us!!

Susan, you are so right! Folks don't seem to value a person's time. I learned that when I owned a floral shop. Since I have joined Hometalk & Pinterest, I have connected with so many people who share my interests, and seeing their creativity at work has inspired me to "pick up where I left off" as the saying goes! It has been a few years since I actively pursued my interests. We built a new home 2 years ago, and we have been very busy landscaping, decorating, & getting settled in. I ...»
have made all my window treatments, and lack one more bedroom being finished with them. I'm not getting any younger, so I need to get with it! :)

Im soooo glad we "met" Pat!! I think we're kindred spirits. I've had a pretty long lull in my creative endeavors too. My daughter came back in 2004 with her 2 mo. old and until just recently they lived with us. I ended up putting most things aside because it was practically impossible to start a project without getting interrupted and I couldn't leave things lying - especially paint. It has been through HomeTalk that the spark has been reignited and so many ideas and wonderful people who share like interests!!

Roll Tide!! Great job!I love roosters. I love to paint and I paint my outside garden statuary all the time.I like to buy the handicapped statues as I call them and give them a new lease on life. I like to use metallic paint because I like the BLING!I even had to repaint my newly redone bathroom before the men returned the next day because I couldn't stand the color that I had chosen.I mixed up some of my craft paint with the paint I had originally chosen and made my own color. The ceiling ...»

Thanks, Larose. That was such a fun project. At the time I painted these, I was selling on consignment at a local antique mall. They sold 3 days after I put them in the mall! Sounds like you are a creative person yourself!!
