Creating a simple mantle

Does anyone have any idea for a pretend or fake mantle? This is the first house we've had without a fireplace.

If you live close to the beach, a piece of driftwood is cool.

Look at some window boxes...put them upside down and put a board on top or right side up depending on the window box. You can distress them, stain them or paint them. They make a great mantel without a lot of work or money.
