I need help choosing colors for the kitchen walls, doors, & cabinets?

I need help choosing colors for my kitchen. We have white appliances, cabinets and island with a sliver tin back splash and granite countertops. I am open to suggestions but I do need to use the blue some where in the kitchen.
The hubby is tired of me putting the different paint colors on the wall he is ready for me to decide please note kitchen is open to dinning room so I need a color for it also.
Thanks,
Sam

I would choose a blue that matches or in similar hue of the counter. Then the white cabinet and backsplash will look perfect. You could do accent colors in red or another color with your kitchen decor. In 2010 I had my kitchen painted mustard yellow. I still like the color but wished I had plain white so I could have incorporate aqua. Now I have mustard walls and green, blue and red accents that have a Swedish, French and Italian feel to it (I already had a few accents like that) and have gotten a red tea pot and colander.

@Loretta Hughes Carver In my humble opinion, the color used in the dining room that you tried in the kitchen would work if the shade were lighter. It would still look good with the dining room, but provide a middle shade to help tone down the high contrast between the stark white cabinets and the granite. The red can be covered with a good hiding primer to enable a lighter color. Also the tin back splash around the corner in the forth picture seems to bother me. As for the blue color it would work in accessories placed around throughout the kitchen. Just saying!

I would pull one of the tan/creamed coffee colors from the granite and match it to a paint swatch (one that has the swatches of dark to super light colors on it) then choose the color that is just one shade lighter on the swatch. Use the blue as an accent. The blue shuttered doors that I assume leads into the pantry I would paint to match the cabinets and use the blue in the accessories. Maybe make your blue just a shade darker than the blue in the granite.

Benjamin Moore has a collection of colors that would work really well with your granite and the blue. "Affinity" is the name of the collection. Every color works together & because each has 5-7 different colorants to make the color, the paint looks different as the light changes throughout the day. You could pick colors for both rooms and be confident they will blend well. Look at the color "Tranquility" is a great grey/blue that blends with everything.

A couple years ago we remodeled our kitchen. Our kitchen was very dark, so we chose light colors of wood and countertop. Choose a blue that's in the same range, but almost white. Then use colors from the granite for kitchen mats, and towels, and a mix of all the colors for some kitchen art. Use some tin tiles or trivets too. Mostly do what makes you feel good. You spend most of your time in the kitchen.

There's a website called Pixlr where you can upload and edit photos for free! I did this sample to give you an idea of what it can do. You can change the colors as many times and with as many shades as you like!

I agree with @Sherry Fram, a nice neutral tan that compliments the granite. Maybe change out the cabinet hardware to brushed nickel to help out the back splash? Accessorize with blue.

I really like the grays-prayers they have out now! White looks classy with them and the blue accents, as well as other colors.....Beautiful!

I would suggest a gray tone from the countertops for the cupboards. Would really look clean and help it to flow. will make it real modern. If you want to add color use accessories ie, rug, pics, vase, a nice valance over window (Do you need the blind? maybe a nice bamboo blind) will really class it up..

....You can do light gray on walls/darker shade cabinets or vice versa...using two colors from paint swatch card is great . use your color accents, blue? red? on accessories.

Here is my long winded response. In your kitchen design, the island should be the focal point. Because you have white appliances, I would do a white to make everything cohesive. Introducing too many different colors (your granite already has multiple colors) will make the kitchen seem very busy - particularly if you store alot of things on your countertops. Get the long chrome handles for your drawers and a smaller similar design for your cabinets. I would wrap the bottom half of your island in beadboard, paint same color as cabinets and stain the top of the island a little darker with a gloss finish. Or go really bold, paint a black/charcoal color (lacquered or clalk paint), same hardware and island design as mentioned above. Except I would suggest a light stain on the island top with a gloss finish. Depending on the age of your appliance, your might have panels on the dishwasher for stainless steel.

I think white is to big of a contrast with the counters. I would go with a one of the lighter tans in the counter to lighten up the kitchen, keep a warm welcoming feeling, and if the room is large and light filled you could go with a shade or 2 darker on the walls. If the kitchen/dining space is on the smaller side, I could use a lighter shade of the cabinet color on the walls. Cream for trim (preferably from the same swatch of colors). Cream on the door unless you want it to be a focal point (or maybe the color of the cabinets). I like a really clean look for a kitchen. Limiting the colors helps it feel neater. So I would use the same or darker tan from the cabinet color. Finally, you can use just about any accent color for fabrics, items on the counters. The best thing about this plan is you can easily change the accent colored items when you need a change but don't want to remodel! I would not go with gray because the counter appears to be an overall tan and black. If you use blue for an accent I'd go with a lighter version. Perhaps red could be another accent-but you may not need it. This is called a triadic color scheme-yellow tan, blue and red- and is a no fail scheme.
