Transforming an Ordinary Wood Bookcase With Milk Paint

For The Love Creations
by For The Love Creations
I was driving past an op shop & screeched into the parking lot when I saw this bookcase leaning on an outside wall. It was mine for a mere $15!
Before
At first I was certain it requested to be painted with a light wash of "Typewriter" in Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint.
Starting off with Milk Paint in Typewriter
I finished with a coat of Hemp Oil...but it just didn't seem right yet....
Weeks had passed and I decided to do a yellow wash over the black with Miss Mustard Seed's Yellow.

I also wanted it to have some height so I took legs off another piece and put them on the bookcase, giving it a whole new look.
Adding vintage legs for height & attitude
Again the piece sat in my studio, I just wasn't happy. Then one day using leftovers from another project,
A custom mix of Milk Paint leftovers
I did the third and final "wash" of milk paint...and fell in love with the rich, aged patina...at last!
Aged to perfection
The inside begged for some whimsy, so I laid the bookcase flat, then arranged coordinating craft paper. Once happy with the patterns, cut to size and used Mod Podge to create an interesting background.

Finished at last, I love this piece so much now. It went from just about discarded and sad...to a piece full of personality and style!
All done!

I am so glad you found it and made it your own and then shared your ideas! I come to Hometalk for relaxation, to be inspired and to enjoy other peoples creations even if I never make the same thing.
