@Marjutbordeaux yes, and if you use starch you can just pull it off later to change it. I used a sheet as wall paper once. Liquid fabric starch in a bucket, and push pins to hold it if it is heavy. When done, pull off and wash the starch out in the washing machine

How would you clean the dust off ?

@Tina Kilgore Anchondo Just dust with a dry cloth or paint brush. The nice thing is if it is put on with starch it can be washed, but you have to research it later. The top could be covered with a sheet of 'glass' from Lowes, light and they can cut it to size, unless you want real glass

I did once, when I surprised my oldest daughter when she was about 11 yrs old, with her own room. I got one of those cheap put it together yourself small three drawer chest, and upholstered it with a thin batting and lavender material. I wish I had a picture of it , but sadly it was before hometalk, pinterest or us having cell phones. lol It turned out really cute though.

I am sure if you type "dresser covered in fabric" in the search box above, you will get lots of ideas how other HomeTalkers have done it. Good luck.

I was wondering if I could use material to cover a wooden wine crate, but the material I have in mind feels like silk. I bought a lavender floor length skirt which is actually the bottom piece to a bridesmaids outfit. It came from David's Bridal and I got it at Goodwill for $4.99 but the top piece didn't come with it.

I just did a dresser and used fabric with Modge Podge. It turned out great! I just did the drawers.

Yes, I used Modge Podge. It was not difficult.

I have done the fabric with liquid starch many times. An easy way to do it is to cut squares with pinking shears like a quilt and just paste them on, even over-lapping. If you wanted it permanent you could modge podge and then seal with shellac or clear gesso.

I used thinned down Elmer's glue and a couple coats of water based poly after it dried so it could be easily cleaned. I also cut the fabric a little larger than needed and waited until it dried to trim off the excess. I have done this many times with excellent results. If you have a heavy fabric, it helps to wet it first. Good luck!
