We will be moving into our condo soon, and I'm already looking for ideas to decorate the walls of the stair well. We have 20 foot ceilings.

Textured wall paper on wall going up and paint it a contrasting color from the wall below . Then if you have art make both walls your art gallery. A lot of people do family pictures but these walls are so big and tall I think it shoul be art. Looks like your place is big enough for family somewhere else. I have my grandkids pictures in the main bathroom.on the wall by toilet. Gives them beautiful kids to look at.

I would open up the wall and create shelves to use as a library wall. You could do a combination of books and nick knacks. Another thing I've seen that's really unique is putting drawers in the stairs themselves. It's a great use of space!
  • I can see a gallery wall - using a huge clock or other decorative piece and tons of different sizes and shaped frames in the same color. Find huge letters and even spell out your last name and even print out and transfer your fave family photos and vacation pics on to large canvasses. You could find canvasses or make them with sayings, quotes and words. Just remember dusting is going to be fun LOL

Turn stair wall into memory lane as your collection of life's images grow they work step by step up your wall. Just remember that gram size and shape can vary just keep them in the same color. Bottom image is a fun angle so try laddering art up to match angle, or vary sizes small to large

Because gallery walls are so popular now, I vote for a large statement piece of artwork unless you already have a bunch of images suitable for a gallery wall.

Here is a photo of the beginning of my gallery stairway wall. I mixed in small mirrors, ornamental wood pieces & wall sconces. I continued up the stairway with more family portraits and a few fancy wood pieces. I love the look and it also took care of where to hand many of my treasured multi-generation family photos in my new home.
