Now You Can Have Black Interiors That Are Bold Not Bleak!
With the autumn weather arriving in parts of the north and the daylight growing shorter with the approach of fall, adding black to our interior spaces is a great way to create a dramatic coccooning effect or a bold fresh update.
See how black interiors can add drama without dreariness to your rooms! #bestof2012
Becky, I didn't say I bought any of that stuff new...LOL it's just that his stuff is so in line with my taste, I can walk into any thrift store and pick it out of the crowd...no kidding during reno of the den, three thrift stores in two states and four pieces of the same set of "linens" to make the curtains and bolsters.... all in a two week period of time....God is good to me that way...I say a prayer in the parking lot for what I want and go in and get it...
Funny you say that because I feel that He speaks to me telling me when I need to head to the thrift stores. I always find something awesome when I listen.
@setting for four....we have two AC units. Most of the year windows are open and sunshine is welcomed. We moved from Denver, Co which is, if you have to live in a cold climate that is the place. Even when it is cold the sun shine brightly.
Well pooh! The link on your blog had a "Page not found" notice. The room you posted was lovely though not what I would have thought of when thinking of RL. Beautiful though.
There sure are loads of other inspiring homes on that link though. Think I'll have to come back and peruse them later. Thanks Helena.
WOW, that is some beautiful decorating! Although....I did notice that except for the Jewelery Showcase and the study from the first page; all the rooms were painted a soft candlelight and black was brought in as a Pop of color....now That's the way I think I could live with it the best! LOL But as always his designs are impeccable and stunning! Thanks for sharing the link Helena.
Thanks Helena for including the link! Love the office space! I love the bergere chair with the black croc material on the chair back!! It reminds me of the 'Smoke Chair from Moooie....Have you seen it?? It's quite amazing; it's actually made from burnt wood! http://www.moooi.com/producten/39-smoke-chai...
Thanks Becky and Sharron! I saw this chair a while ago on Candice Olsen's show on HGTV and it has always been in the back of my mind as a WOW piece for a room.....can you believe it is actually burnt wood??? It's stunning!
It REALLY IS! i wondered if you could see charring on the wood close up....it's hard to tell from a picture, but also if the wood is weakened as a result of the treatment and what they do to "stabilize" it for use...
Ok Yes i see, that is a cool video...I didn't see it offered the first time...I love them all but don't like the look of the missing back portion of the dining room chairs...
When I saw it on HGTV, this chair looked really solid, even for being burned, it looked really well 'built'. The missing part in the back actually adds to the whole effect and looked great in the room that Candice Olsen designed...she is a fabulous designer.
I agree I love Candice....I got tickled when she was trying to do her own basement... But she's not only amazing....she's KIND and descent to the people that she works with....she defuses "ot-oh's" with humor and grace....I really like her a LOT! and although I like the concept of "Love it or List it" the lady designer is more than abrupt at times and sometimes she's downright mean...
I guess I wasn't watching close enough. I missed seeing the missing back part.
I too love Candice Olsen and agree with you Sharron on Love it or List it. Because of that I fast forward through the whole middle section just watching the last house they look at to possibly buy and view the changes in their home. So much of HGTV is rude like that anymore.
Well when a designer tells people the "can't have" a feature that they had previously, AND still had the plumbing in the floor to accomodate it, and then says "they will just have to live with it" It occurs to me that she has forgotton, who works for who...these people weren't unreasonable or even highly critical no matter what she said to them...and on another show she was painting the front room black and the women said I don't want this room black please stop and change the color...and
...»
the designer told her she'd finish the design and they could change the color if they didn't like it when she left...I thought, oh hell no they are PAYING for this...
That's just why I don't watch that part of the show. I like seeing the end results, but after watching a couple of the shows in the whole I had it. I'm sure they sign a contract stating they give up any rights to getting what they want. Something I wouldn't do even if HGTV was paying for it. And you have to admit that some of them live in older homes and give the designer a small budget for all they want accomplished.
The key to black and white is deciding if you are a black with white or a white with black kinda girl - check out more inspiration here http://designwotcha.com/design-basics/color-...
