Flowering bulbs create an extra special touch to your holiday decor and make wonderful gifts!
Colorful bowls make great containers!
Paperwhites and Amaryllis are two of the most popular bulbs for indoor forcing. Expect to pay about one dollar apiece for Paperwhites and eight dollars to ten dollars (and up!) for good quality Amaryllis.
Select plump, firm bulbs for best results!
Although pricier, Amaryllis planted in potting soil can be kept as houseplants and summered outside. Then, let them dry out in early fall and reuse the bulbs year after year! Paperwhites will not bloom for 2 or 3 years and are generally composted after their bloom time.
Dollar Store & recycled glassware with bulbs.
Paperwhites can be planted every two weeks for continuous winter bloom in your home. They take approximately 5 to 6 weeks from planting to bloom. Amaryllis take 10 to 12 weeks.
Bulb Forcing Materials
Inexpensive containers filled with sand, pebbles, gravel, glass marbles or potting soil are perfect to nestle your bulbs. Dress up your planted container with holiday accents to keep it colorful until the plants grow and put on their show!
