Susan, I'm with you on not trading time with your daughter and granddaughter. Since I've watched our grandson since he was an infant we are very very close. Something no one else shares with him. When he left with his mom today we said our goodbyes, got big hugs and I said I love yous and miss yous. Though I get more done when he's not here it's not as fun!
I must admit...I am an organized "freak" and I mean that in the kindest way to myself... I have been raising my g-son for the last 2 1/2 out of 3 years. He is my pride and joy..all the way. Go figure ladies, he loves to clean and vacuum (he owns 2 toy vacuums and 1 real one), and loves tools. I taught him how to hang his little Black and Decker tools on hooks and keep them organized. I absolutely hate clutter. I have to be able to see my baseboards and feel a look of warmth in my house

without being overwhelmed. My way of a clutter free home is this old rule of thumb; "If you haven't used it, looked for it, or needed it in the last 6 months....it's gone." I raised 4 children single handed and both girls are 'collectors'..I call them hoarders of clothing, and toys....etc.. But the have very organized cluttered homes. I posted a picture of my inspirational g-son, Achidan (very old Irish royalty name I gave him at birth, pronounced Ashdan). He is my reason to keep going when my body wants to give up...Love this little guy!
Oh isn't he just precious Therese! I know from experience that children love order and if given the chance they're more than happy to help you keep things neat and tidy.
TY Becky...he is truly the center of my universe. I have 9 grandchildren total, but for some reason this little guy came along when I needed it the most in my life... :)
Therese your grandson is adorable. Yes, it's true that while we love all our grandchildren, if you've had the "priviledge" of having one live with you, especially from the time they were an infant, then there is a very special bond that forms. Our home is the home our granddaughter has always known and has grown up in. She totally considers this as the place she comes home to. We have her

roughly every other weekened now so that makes our time together even more special. OK, enough granny talk!!
She's 8 now and our birthdays are 1 day apart!! It is a wonderful club and since I only have one granddaughter, I can tell her she's my favorite granddaughter!! I still say that to my kids to this day since I have one of each!! BTW - what do your grandkids call you?
We have one grandson by blood and one by love. Our by blood calls me Grammy, my Mom and her Mom were both Grammys too so it's traditional. Our love (step grandson) sometimes calls me Becky. He's ten, since his mom and our son are getting a divorce he seems a bit confused on what to call me. I told him it was up to him what he wanted to call me, but he'd always be my grandson. Maybe not by blood, but by love. He's been part of our lives for seven years now.
Is this the grandson that will be staying w/you along with your son? Yeah, really, if he's been a part of your lives for seven yrs. it doesn't make one bit of difference that it's not actual "by blood". I like the way you put that, by blood and by love!! We have a total of four - 3 boys and 1 girl. Two of the boys are my husbands grandchildren. Then my daughter has a son who is 12 now but sadly lives with his Dad in Fl. and my daughter has the girl. So, she's not related to my husband

either but believe me, he could not love her any more if she was. She and her PopPop are thick as thieves!!
My grandbabies....all 9 of them call me MiMi. I still don't know where that came from but as long as they are a part of my life they can call me anything...except late for coffee. Okay..away from the granny club for a second...can anyone tell me why chalk paint is getting to be so popular? Just curious. I see it everywhere.
Well from what I understand, if you're using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint or Cee Cee Caldwell's, there is absolutely no prep work needed and it supposedly goes beautifully, very smooth etc. I think some sort of wax finish is supposed to be applied as a protectant. Now, I also see where a lot of people have made their own w/plaster of paris, water and whatever color paint. Also any of these applications seem to be used for furniture - not walls. I am going to try it on a small night stand I

don't care whether I screw it up or not. There is another recipe but off hand I can't remember what is used in place of the plaster of paris. That's all I know!!
Thanks Susan..I was just curious. Here is a *good to know fact*...mix a small box of baking soda into a bucket of paint before painting the walls and it will help absorb everyday odors.
I just realized we've taken over another thread. I think we need to share email addies incase they kick us off. Just reading their posting guidelines we're pretty much breaking them most of the time. Not this time really since the paint has to do with the home, but the grandbaby stuff is. 8^{
Susan it's our son and his son that live with us now. Though he's getting a divorce our by love grandson visits still. We bought both the boys bikes to ride while here and ofcourse life jackets

for on the boat and to ride in the double raft we got for them.
I always repurposing my containers:) I especially love the white chinese take out containers with the clear snap on lids for storage, they stack well too, I even use them for shipping items or quick transfering handful of items from one work area to another,,,,, im sure there are so many that just get thrown in the trash and that leads me to wish they'd stop producing them, I cant eat enough or afford to eat enough chinese take out to cure the production issue lol
Deanna's comment on Dena's post reminded me of a tip - egg cartons make great packing material for shipping something through the mail. I needed to send my camera in for service - I bought a shipping box at the post office but I balked at their prices for bubble wrap (esp since I had some at home), but I really needed to get it in the mail. I had my recycling in the car (for the next stop) - found the egg cartons. Easy to tear to fit the box and contents. Styrofoam or paperboard types will work fine.
Ellen H I LOVE the cardboard Egg Cartons for "seed starters" plant them in Feb by the time they are big enough to go outside...it's time to plant them...and the whole thing can go in the ground..I did this with all my kids first grade classes and planted sunflowers with them....then they took them home to plant in the yard for the birds to enjoy...
This past weekend we bought a plastic tray of nuts. It had 4 compartments. It is now on the hall table with my change (seperated by denomination of course) in it.
