Can't stand up to paint for long...

I may not be able to stand up too long, but by golly I can sit down and do painting projects...this is going on my entry table that I rescued from the curb several months ago. Why would anyone throw out a beautiful table from the 30's because it is scarred? I have scars and I don't want to be thrown out!

I am painting this in antique white with a hint of raw yellow on my entry table top..I'll post photos when done!

That's awesome Sharron. Our son is like his dad and I are. We devour books. Our daughter likes to read, but never got into having books waiting to read like the rest of us. I'm hoping our grandson takes after his dad when it comes to reading. His mom said she had trouble reading as does her older son. If you look at how many rules are broken in spelling words it's a wonder anyone can read! Our grandson loves to be read to and you know I don't mind that at all. I did hide the Dr Seuss book ...»
since I don't care for his books at all! At least not the ones I've read.

Aww thank you Tania. I sure loved teaching. I was just an assistant to the reading teacher, but I had my own students and my own little classroom. I miss it. My sister was an elementary teacher, mostly kindergarten then a reading specialist then later a few years as a third grade teacher. She and the reading teacher I worked for said I should have been a full time teacher. I don't think I would have liked that. I had more freedom with my classroom. Ofcourse that had to do with the teacher I worked with until she retired. We were a perfect match. I loved working with her. Not so much that last year. I stayed for my students which I'd been with for years at that time. I finally walked out on the replacement just two weeks before then end of the year.

Speaking of books...I practically inhale books! I read all the time! Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Patterson, and on and on...no romances for me though..I like the ones that grab-you-by-the-neck-and-throw-you-across-the-room so you cannot sleep kind of books! But does that really surprise any of you? @ Becky funny you hide Suess books..one of my favorite quotes as a kid came from there and I live by it... " You are you, that's truer than true. No one else is youer than ...»
you."...LOL..I have a serial killer book I have been writing for about a year, nearly done now, and a friend said he would publish it for me...never been so scared in my life...what if no one reads it???

I haven't read Stephen King, but I do the others you mentioned. Have you read Dean Koontz Fear Nothing yet? That about spooked the heck out of me. Especially since soon after we got the boys (two boy kitties) and Joey literally bounced off the walls like an ape.
    • Joey at around three months old back in July of '07. He's very long with an extra long tail.

I don't read horror, or watch horror movies...ok, not exactly right....I "read" crime biographies because I always wanted to know as much about the criminal mindset as possible. so maybe it would help prevent my family from being victimized..... I "watch" horror movies if they are about things that don't exist...like Vampires...but not if they are about crazy people that are just killing others....I can't handle it...

I wouldn't call what I've read of Dean Koontz to be horror, more sci fi.

    I love crime novel too.

Therese. I bet that's so super interesting!

OH WOW Therese, that's Awesome! have you read " the Gift of Fear" I loved that book and gave it to all the women in the family one year for Christmas... I read a book about Gacy and then bought John Walch's book, hubby said, those books make me feel sick, and I said well Pedophiles make it their lifes work to study our kids and know how to trick them...I think somebody needs to know how THEY think so we can protect our kids...

@Therese, my favorite Dr. Suess book is "Oh, the places you will go." My daughter's godmother gave it to her for her high school graduation. In fact, I think it was recommended as a good graduation gift. On the other hand, it applies to parents too. Our son had a few wild years and we found ourselves in some strange places, getting him out, so my motto was "Oh, the places they will take you."

I just found that on Youtube Donna. I just don't care for his style. Is that weird or what? I don't think I know anyone else that doesn't like Dr Seuss.

@ Donna..bet you could find a lot of people that don't like green eggs and ham.....lolol..but seriously, one of the best authors I have read from in a very long time is Sue Grafton...check out her alphabet series A is for Arsenic, etc... she is a softer writer not so violent as the books I usually enjoy.

@ Sharron..yes! the Gift of Fear is fantastic reading! I read all the true books about serial ...»

killers I can (and their trials)..the things they try to convince juries of is unbelievable!...Sick sick minds out there...ultimately I would like to sit down with a serial killer and find out what makes them tick! I couldn't sit down with a pedophile because they would have to tape my hands to my behind and double search me for weapons....I really could not control myself in a room with them!

@Becky, when I was growing up I didn't like his style but then when I had kids, I changed. It's not weird.

Therese I have one of Sue Grafton's book. Not sure which letter. It's on a shelf in the library and I'm too tired to run back down there. Just did a bit of running up and down the stairs and I'm not wanting to do it again even I probably need more steps in today. I wear a pedometer.

I'm glad you all don't think it's weird to not like his style. I thought everyone did. When you work in public schools they make a big deal out of his birthday in September. I think it's the fifth.

I've been on the internet looking up Dr. Seuss. For some reason, I don't recall ever reading Dr. Seuss, so I don't know if I like him or not. I don't have kids so I wondered if I was too old to have read him when I was in school but apparently some of his books were from the mid-50's - I started school in 1962. Was Alabama a little behind the times?

Ellen I don't really remember having to read him in school either. What comes to my mind is Dick and Jane books. Which reminds me I need to get my set out so I can read them to Owen and help him learn to read.

Oh my gosh Tania, I had no idea The Green Mile was Steven King!

Tania, when our daughter was a lab tech in the hospital on and AF base in Cali she had died ...»

her hair black. All her friends said she reminded them of Abby. I love abby too. I watch all the CSIs, Criminal Mind, both NCISs, Bones and Rizzoli and Isles. A few others I'm sure I missed too.

Becky, you have your Dick and Jane books?! How wonderful! I only have one but wished I had more. I loved those books. I remember sitting next to my mom and reading them and her telling me to "sound out the word". Good memories.

Not the ones from school. I bought some while working for a public school system through Readers Digest book service that comes around to schools about once a month.

Anytime I've ever read a book and seen the movie the book has always been much better. Especially The Promise.

Oh how neat Tania! That's so interesting. I almost asked if you knew who we were talking about. Thanks for the link!
