Lucas Nursury may have it, it is located in Oviedo off of 426 and Slavia RD. -
Check with ag feed stores (horse) They normally have straw for bedding...I used to put straw in my dog run to keep the mud down -
You may run into trouble using pine straw...it can lower the pH of the soil. -
You know I have a Pine tree out front and I used the pine needles for mulch for my strawberries and they all started dying. I saved a few but I'm pretty sure it was the pine needles now. Thanks KMS. -
Pine needles DO lover the pH of the soil - they work great in palm tree beds and around other acid loving plants like azaleas - I ended getting true STRAW bales (not pine straw) and the garden is growing leaps and bounds - when the rain stops I plan on posting updated pics here. -
In native environments the ground cover of "pine needles" and the reduction of sun light keep the forest floor pretty clear of competing plants...part of that is due to the soils ph -
Check with you local feed and seed outfits or farming suppliers and they should be able to help you. I know that there are farms in the out lying areas of LA, like in Simi or Moorpark or even in the Ventura areas. They should be able to tell you where to find WHEAT STRAW BALES. Oat straw would work but you would get a lot of grass growing up from them. Wheat Straw is what you really want.
