OOOOHHHHH.... my goodness, here she is again! Saw her on your blog, she is still stunning! I love the way the drawers are detailed, and the color is incredible. On my computer it is blue, but you said itis teal. I like teal better. I was just looking for you,so i could post a picture of my old desk for you to consider and give me insight on how to make this old piece of furniture alive and..... work with my stuff! Like you do with yours. I would never have considered teal, but this is gorgeous. will post ..later.
Well just look at Ms. Josephine struttin her stuff!! You better watch her & Collette. I mean, w/Josephine running round without her drawers and Collette and her sexy legs those girls could really get in trouble - better send Harry along as a chaperone!!
Well, she turned out quite lovely and obviously is a late bloomer - but just look at her now!! Va Va Voom!!
Thanks, everyone- my daughter says she looks electric blue in the pics, but I promise, she really is a dark teal. Tried to get her out in the sunshine for better lighting, and I think it backfired on me! Susan, you're a hoot- maybe we need to collaborate on these furniture stories! ;D
Susan, I used Valspar latex on Josephine. I used Floetrol additive to get a smooth finish. Latex never dries very hard, so I put 2- 3 coats of varnish over that. My favorite paint to use, though, is General Finishes Milk Paint. I buy it online either through Amazon or from Rockler.com. It's about the same price-wise as the chalk paints, but it seems (for me, at least) much easier to get a smooth even finish. Even if I'm distressing a piece, I like to start out with a smooth base. milk paint on Harry and Colette. I also put a couple of coats of varnish over milk paint- General Finishes has a clear coat that is rated for floors, so that's what I use for table tops. I figure if it'll stand up to shoe scuffs, it should hold up really well on table tops. Way more than you asked for? :}
No - not more than I asked for. Some answers aren't so cut & dried and since you paint a lot of furniture I was just curious what you used. The finish is just as important as the paint and I appreciate your taking the time!!
Actually, I do have another one! LOL You said you used Floetrol. I used that when I was doing a Venetial Plaster faux look in our bedroon. Never thought about mixing it w/paint for furniture. What kind of ratio do you use or is it one of those "just pour some in" type of measurements we all do??
I didn't want to add it to the whole can, so I poured some of the paint in a cup and just eyeballed the floetrol. I think there are ratio limits stated on the can, but can't remember what it is. I also used it years ago when I painted our kitchen cabinets- it really helps minimize the brush or roller marks. (Penetrol would be used for oil based paints, which I don't like to use because of the hassle of clean-up.)
OOHHH waaaa...poor me, I love Josephine and I love Collette..and I dont like my lamp! Yesterday I sprayed it Ivory, and it doesnt match the shade..or anything else in the livng room. How do you kids do this? Do you have vision? Imagination? Or is it just my imagination that a fresh coat of paint will transform my world? And then it looks so.....so....ungood. The lamp story is, I bought these about 16 years ago at Ward's. They were mauve. Then years later I sprayed them black, then a

few years later, copper, got the new shades...cool. Now one is Ivory..not looking good. How do you know something is going to come out ok. What is the thought process, that something will look good or not? Now I dont know what to do. A new shade to start with?Another color?If I thought teal would work in here, I would start there, but I dont think there is a teal spray paint anyway! oohh woe..............well, it is not THAT terrible a thing, but it sounds good doesnt it!
Bernice, find a color in your rug, or in your drapes, or a painting on your wall that you want to highlight and bring more of that color into the room...go to the paint store and pick up sample cards...hold them up against the walls, the sofa, the lamp shade....and then go back to the store and buy a spray paint in that color family....also, I spray painted some butterflies that I had, as a gift for DIL when I knew she was trying to decorate for her girls on a non-existant budget....I

Loved the pink, it would match the walls well...but once they were done they were "flat" so i went in my room , found a bottle of pearlized nail polish with a golden glittery hue, and used it to "highlight" the butterflies...it made all the difference in the world, they didn't even look the the same color....and were perfect in the girls room....so maybe a small jar of Gold or silver rub on that Susan and Sherrie are always talking about will change the look of the lamp entirely.
Show us pics, Bernice H ! There are many times I start with a color and have to redo because it wasn't what I thought it would be. It's all part of the process. I think Valspar (Lowe's) has a teal spray paint, though I don't know if it would be the shade you're looking for.
Ha! I looked around my living room for a color.So now the carpet is beige, the sofa is beige, the chairs are a pale something, the tables are wood, the walls are yellowish gold, I have a little red on my gallery wall, but i am so tired of red. I have 2 sofa pillows with steel blue in them and 2 gold sofa pillows! My one wall is a marroon brown, which is not a color I want to go with,. good gravy! I used to have a teal-green carpet which i loved, it was so restful and calming. hmmm Pretty

boring in here for most people I guess. Yep, I will take some pictures when i t is daylight. oh and my curtains are also a pale goldish sheer design. I dont like the curtains shrinking the room is why I have sheers of this color. Good gravy. My wardrobe is VERY colorful, but I like my house to be calming, but I think not THIS calming! Maybe it is too calming, because whenever I get home I want to get in my chair and take a snooze! haha oops just saw the weather report, 32 degrees tonight,. bye bye garden.
Bernice, if you like teal it may be just the ticket, I found a lovely color at my HD (My Bench Makever) so go for it....beside the lamp, you can also buy a number of picture frames at the thrift store and paint them with the same color to make a wall grouping....frame photos or beautiful fabrics, scrapbook paper or mementos ...
Well, she turned out quite lovely and obviously is a late bloomer - but just look at her now!! Va Va Voom!!
