My original idea was to do something with them for Christmas. Unfortunately that is as far as my idea went. Can you help me?

Thanks @Jill Feigelman for sharing my Chalkboard Mason Jar Lid Ornaments! :) @Kathie This project should work for any metal lids. I have put chalkboard paint on a variety of metal objects & they have all turned out great! Have fun crafting! :)

Kathy, you could get Christmas swatches from a craft store and matching ribbon. Cut circles from the swatches big enough to cover the lid and hang down just a little. Place the fabric between the lid and inside piece of the lid and screw back onto the jar. Then tie ribbon or raffia around the rim under the fabric. You can fill with nuts and/or different Christmas candies and display on your counter or table. You could also fill them with red/green/gold/silver colored sand or marbles and put a votive in them. Decorate the outside with a couple pieces of raffia with small jingle bells tied to the ends. Hope this gives you some starting point ideas. ;o)

I totally missed that they are "gallon" jars. Lol. You could still use the ideas but that'd be A LOT of candy. Maybe popcorn or popcorn balls covered in festive colors. Or fill spray paint pine cones festive colors and fill; tie a thicker ribbon around the middle and use a battery operated pillar candle.

How about filling them with fake snow and miniature sleds, trees and maybe a miniature cottage? You could use them right side up or turn them over after gluing down your miniatures and adding snow to the jar, fit the lid onto the jar and turn over, let the snow fall where it will. Large snow globe effects. You could also fill with cinnamon scented pine cones and twinkle lights it will give a nice light show and add some scent to the room.

@Susan/Kathie..That is sort of what I did with one last Christmas..It had one of the old candle lights inside and I put in Epsom salts for snow and a nice family of white tail deer & an old bottle brush tree..it looks so nice sitting on my old cupboard..I plan on doing more this year..depending on what you put in them..they can be displayed all Winter..

Modge podge outside of jar then sprinkle kosher salt over jar. Next place a ribbon on the grooves of the jar. Finally put a battery operated or candle tea light inside. You could put a bed of salt for a pillar candle. Good luckn

I use gallon jars as junk jars. My mom used jars to add little keepsakes, small toys likes the ones from cracker jacks, toys from fast food places, marbles, etc. I and one sister have my late moms jars and it brings back great memories to get the jars out and look at the items she collected in them. I have started some for our kids and grandkids to look at after we're gone. One thing I have in mine is our old drivers license with our picture of those younger days!

Most of my nieces and nephews have their own places do I'm working on large glass jars filled with things they need or I think they need. A jar full of measuring cups and spoons. A jar of smaller jars full of spices and herbs. A jar of items for cookies complete with a recipe. They can then keep it all in the jar or use the jar to store cookies as in the last example. I also put a chalkboard label on the outside.

Well in today's world you can use them to save your change. It will take a long time to add up. Try to stay out of it until an emergency or maybe have collected enough to take a small trip, a day away, or even pay or help pay your taxes. If you have more than 1 jar try to separate your pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. That makes it a lot easier to wrap them when ready. You will not have to start out by separating them. That will already be done.
