Our Laundry Room Flip

It is funny how a room can make you happy, or not. My laundry room was a room that I spent three or four days a week in and it was so gloomy, even with yellow paint! Our house is a new build and for some reason the builder did not add necessary storage anywhere, so I had to get creative and make my own space for storage. I gave myself three weekends to finish this project. We didnt need another year long project.

Here is the laundry room before. One wire shelf, no organization, and I left it looking like a hot mess just to show what it looks like every single day.

Here we are as of this morning actually. I bought and repainted two cabinets (Valspar's Cream Delight) from our local Habitat for Humanity store for $10 total! I stenciled the back wall with a Cutting Edge Stencil and Behr's Sea Salt paint, painted the walls with Valspar's White paint, installed a new light to hang in the space, and built/installed the wooden shelves in the middle of the wall.

I have more details on the blog and plan to post a "How To" this week showing how I built the shelves, but now I can actually tolerate doing laundry in my small 5x6 space.

And I can finally start organizing things that need to be organized and hidden.

The before picture looks like my area. I just picked up two cabinets at a garage sale approx. the same size as the ones in the finished picture, How do I hang them? I don't have a wall on the left side They can only be hung on the back wall. Thank you for any assistance you can give.

Finally, finally! I have found a picture that works like my laundry room. I have the cabinets already built in but have been looking for some idea of what to do with something in between them that looked really nice. Your shelves are the answer. Do you have a link to your blog that gives the directions on how to make them yet? I am so excited to get started on building shelves to make extra storage. I don't have a wire rack I just use the top of my dryer for my soaps and the back of my dryer for my king size pump softner. Shelves would be the answer and yours are so pretty. I hope you have directions soon. I'm dying to fix my laundry room up. It's amazing how much time we spend in such a small space!!

Hal-Lay-Lou-Ya!!!! This looks exactly like our laundry room that currently has "not deep enough shelves" holding "tooooo wide a size plastic containers". I plan to bring the cabinets out a tiny bit from the back wall....put the center shelves back flush with the wall---but, about 3" in from the front of the cabinet. I will then add a curtain on a spring rod between the cabinets to cover the shelves. That is where I will put the detergent and supplies that are needed on laundry day and the extra stash of paper towels that look junkie. Heck, I just might put shelves the entire width of the room above the cabinets for extra appliances and holiday dishes. That area would also have a curtain...so the curtains would look like a "T" in that entire area. ...Yipee! Our room is a tiny bit larger so, I will look for narrow kitchen cabinet for one side for more storage and maybe put a cute little lamp and doo dad there. ThankYouThankYouThankYou I am so excited!!! You are an inspiration. P.S. looks like I will be fixing an extra special dinner tonight before I inform my husband of what is in store!
