Ceiling leaks

I have small spots on the celings below two bathrooms- HELP! They have been very slow to come, but do I hire a plumber or a sheetrock person to check it out from above or below. Is this a complete demo or is there help? I am terrified of the potential cost. Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

  • call a plumber. worry about the sheetrock later. sometimes a leak can be as easy as a new wax ring on a toilet. did you check all around the pipes and toilets to check for moisture/leaks? I would not panic yet. but I would get a couple different quotes to have it repaired. home warranties also cover things like this as well. good luck

Thank you so much Garden Frog : ) I don't see any obvious water in the bathrooms~ I will take the first step, shortly!

@Cynthia you don't say if the roof is above the area. You could have the roof checked out. We had a problem with leaks in the basement and believe it or not it had to do with the windows - rain would leak in and travel right down to the basement and we have a two story home. We replaced the windows and now no more problems. So there could be more than one possibility to problems.

HI Gail~ Food for thought and I will look into this too~ The culpirt bathrooms are on the second floor and the ceiling damage is in the middle of the house. Thank you

I had a bathroom leak from the second floor bathroom and I found out that my shower was leaking from the adjuster valve. I could actually see the water coming out around it when I turned the handle on and then it ran back behind there. I was able to do a quick fix with some caulk until we replaced the handle with new ones. Then just hit your ceiling stains with Kilz to block out the stains.

Would change the wax ring on the toilet first--have had similar problem before, and that fixed it!

Thank you~ We may??? have the problem solved but are not waiting to see if there is a leak again. It was "caulking in the shower." I hope!
