Blessing Jar: Record blessings throughout the year and open on Thanksgiving as a family

This is a cherished tradition in our family that we've been doing since 1999. Throughout the year this simple jar sits on our kitchen table and we fill it with blessings recorded on slips of paper. On Thanksgiving evening, after we've purchased and decorated our Christmas tree, we empty out the jar and read the blessings as a reflection of our year.

I used my Cricut to cut out the vinyl letters.

Each year I make a scrapbook layout and use some of our "blessings" as a reminder of our year.

I like the idea of doing it all year. We have always done a "happy birthday Jesus thank you for..." and we read them on Christmas Eve but I may have to start a year round jar. Thanks for the idea!

Marty - what a wonderful & inspiring idea!! I'm sure we all have "those days" when it's sometimes hard to find that elusive blessing but this makes you stop and think and you can always find something!!

That's a great idea. My wife's family does "I'm thankful for ..." at Thanksgiving, but this really makes you think throughout the year.

That makes me happy! As my kids have aged this tradition (and all the rest!) are so important to them. It's amazing how close your family becomes when you make even the little things special.

How sweet and sentimental. Reading all of those blessings would make me cry, ( a good, thankful cry)

Thanks Marty I bet if we all looked around we could find something to be grateful for even if you didn't think you did.
