Making curtain rods out of towel bars!

When I was re-doing our living room, and really thinking about every aspect of the space, I realized that I didn't like curtain rods to go completely across the top of the window if there was no reason for it. I mean, how many of us actually close their curtains? Because we have blinds, we just use our curtains for decoration and sound absorption. So I thought outside the box. I went with honey oak wooden hand towel holders at less than $5 a pop. I painted them up to my liking and they serve the purpose . . . at a much less expensive cost than typical curtain rods.

Great idea PT. I've seen these in thrift stores before. Remember when this style of towel rod was popular. Wish I'd have saved ours.

Wow! I too hate to see that bar across the window when all you want is a small panel at the edge. That is one reason I do not use curtains...have only blinds on my windows! Now I might consider this! Actually, I have 3 windows close together and by using wooden dowels, I can cut them the size I need them. I saved this post.

That's exactly right Jeanette! You can cut them to the size you need. They are quite versatile. Good luck!

I'm just the opposite. I wouldn't care for short rods in our home. I do close my panels now and then so the short rods wouldn't work for me. They do make sense when you're just using the panels decoratively though.

Oh Yeah! We removed our old towel racks and replaced them and I had my husband save them for exactly this purpose! We haven't put them up yet but yours look so good, it's reassuring!!! Thanks for this. :)

Wellll.... If you ever change your mind you can always cut a piece of PVC pipe and paint it and just move the end bracket...and you'll still have a curtain rod for about five bucks....LOL this is cute...
