@Marian , call a pro to affix it at the right height, so the cable or the TV don't melt from the heat. About those cables... You could use cable trunking .

@SamHobb Wow, I am just not reading your post. I had just signed up to hometalk the day that I posted the question, and, immediately we started moving our large entertainment units to surround our fireplace. So the deed is done......now to make you and me feel better about this let me explain; our fireplace is a simple moveable gas firebox surrounded by a mantle. We live in Alabama in the USA and only use this fireplace (gas firebox) maybe twice a year. Hope it will all be ok. I will post pictures when I have cleaned up from tearing my house apart to get this job done. We did use cable trunking though. By the way, I clicked on to "follow you." I am also an author....first novel though is "The Royal Rose of Alabama" and incidentally my main character is a princess from England! You can check out my facebook page at Marian Powell Powell.

We had a similar problem with our Wii system. But our cords could get hung down behind the fireplace.
