Did you buy a new kitchen range this year?

I am working on a range buying guide. If you purchased a range this year please share: 1) Why you picked the range that you purchased (because of the features or price?) 2) Which features on your new range you use the most 3) And which features are you disappointed with.. Thanks so much!

I bought an LG convection range. So far I am loving it. Only had it 1 week. The burners are so fast to heat. It is a flat top with digital panel. The preheating of the oven is fast too. I have not had much experience baking with it, but love it so far. I chose the range because we were getting an LG fridge and the LG convection microwave had great reviews, so I wanted them to match. LG fridge with dual ice maker had great reviews as well. The only thing I did unconventionally was get a Bosch dishwasher. The LG dishwasher did not have great reviews and was still very spendy. I opted for the better Bosch. Hope this helps!

Thanks @Jill B -- is it gas or electric?

I have been telling everyone how wonderful induction cooking is. You can turn it down just like gas and there is no mess. Since the glass surface does not get hot, there is no mess to clean up. No baked on food. Anyway, don't ever want another type of cooking.

Is that true of all cookware? We have some non- metal cookware like Corningwarw site and pyres type ones. Also have the Pampered Chef Dutch Oven that is not metal.

Decided for our remodeling job w/large rectangle island 4 x 8' that as much as I wanted to have a gas cooktop, we decided on a side in Samsung electric 5 burner w/warmer so the island would be easier to use for buffets. The slide in has a larger bottom oven than most and the SS exterior has a more sleek commercial appearance. We intended to go again with a Jennaire w/down draft but the reviews on the new Jennaires were horrible.

Induction, once you get used to it you can never stand anything else.

@Mary schnedier My opinion is just the opposite... lol I´ve had induction for the past 12 years and still can´t get used to it. I miss my gas range!!

I bought a gas LG range because it had good reviews and I was getting a LG fridge and over counter microwave. The range is quick to heat. The bad part is the super burner cooks uneven and the range is impossible to keep clean.I bought the stainless and black to match everything else.Love the look of the oven(blue on inside),but again you will be cleaning a lot.

I have a Samsung electric range with a double convection oven...love it to pieces

Induction is simply too costly when you factor in the need for an entirely new set of cookware (it has to special, magnetic bottoms...I believe nothing else works with it) We got this double oven electric range from GE. I chose it because I needed a double oven for holiday meals that was well-rated. I also liked this because the top oven is smaller, which is great for everyday use/consumes less energy. Other models had two identically sized ovens, which I knew wouldn't fit a big holiday turkey. We got this at Sears Appliance and the associate who helped us said GE makes the best cooking appliances. We just moved from a house with gas, so I am having to get used to electric again, and also haven't been able to use/test all of the features as we are awaiting final touches to our kitchen remodel, but so far, so good. Freestanding Smoothtop Electric Double Oven Range with Self-Clean Oven Capability, Dual Element, Boil Element, Fifth Element Warming Zone and Black Gloss Oven Interior in Stainless Steel

We chose a Kenmore induction range because it had knobs for the burners and large enough control displays for my visually impaired husband to see. It is also safer for him to use with oxygen.
  • Julie Julie on Nov 24, 2014
To me, GAS burners are the only way to go if you want controllable heat on your range top. Mine is a Kenmore, I have had great luck with their products. It's a convection oven or not, you pick what you want to use for what you are cooking. My ONLY complaint with mine and when YOU are looking, check the oven door for open venting, mine has this and I have had pasta water boil over (cuz I forget to turn it down after I put the pasta in-my fault) BUT my door has vents in it and the water got in the vents and have dirtied up the glass! In between the layers of glass! I asked about it on here and several people told me how to take the door apart and clean the glass. But I'm too chicken to do it cuz I don't want to risk losing the factory seal on the door if I can't get it back together tight enough:(

I chose a Frigidaire Professional slide in electric range. Do not have gas here so had to go with electric and really liked the feature with half oven rack so I can bake something large on one side and still have two racks on other side. It has induction feature also just haven't used it yet. I do need to get service person out because cooling fan sounds like jet engine. Very loud so I guess it is loose.

Bought an Electrolux induction-convection range. Originally Wanted a gas range but we would have had to run gas to the stove which was more spendy that buying special pots and pans that are needed for the induction range. I liked the idea that induction was faster than gas. And the smooth top Is easier to clean than the grates and top of the gas range. We are very pleased with our choice.
  • Judy Judy on Nov 24, 2014
Got an Amana gas range. $700 range on closeout for $400. It has a large oven with the broiler on the top of the oven rather than in a drawer below & 2 big front burners, one with a higher output for quick cooking, & it has sturdy grates. I read the reviews & most were very good. I use the 2 big burners & the oven the most. The only thing I don't like about it is that when someone is accessing the cupboards over the stove & stomach or hips are in contact with the front of the range it turns the burners on just enough for the gas to start leaking out but not enough to ignite.....usually. It did ignite twice, once when my arm was over the burner.

I bought a Whirlpool stainless steel glass top ,looks like the picture .I am very pleased with it! it is moderately priced, clean lines, easy to clean, and blends well with my black and silver fridge.I like that it is not completely silver, but is broken up with black, and not totally one color.I am very pleased with Whirlpool!!!

We got an LG electronic range just because my husband wanted it to match our stainless steel three door refrigerator...neither of which I enjoy using. But I thoroughly enjoy EATING whatever he or my daughter decide to whip up. I guess I am not an appliance kinda girl. But I am grateful though :)

I purchased a Kenmore, glass top. The most aggravating problem is the drawer on the bottom is not hooked to any rails or guides. Just slides in at whatever angle and always needs to be straightened using both hands. How I wish that the OLD one could have been repaired. It was solid and sturdy if not energy efficient. You might check Consumer Reports . They list best buys as well as most and least repair prone.

I bought the GE Artistry retro package. It's crap! Dishwasher leaks and microwave burned up. We have had it 6 weeks. The range is fine. The other 3 are NOT good. Trying to trade now

I wanted a stainless steel range that was all stainless steel and not just the sides. I found it with a Bosch. I have a warming drawer which I haven't used yet, but can't wait for Christmas when I will be using it. I love the range, but it did take a little while to learn how to use it since my old range was 40 years old! Everything is touch pad except for the burners. Still after one year I love it and it certainly is easy to clean with it being all stainless steel. Hope this helps. I did buy it at Orville's and it was approximately $995. I live in NY.

We bought a white Kenmore 5-range flat top electric, 220V last Halloween. I learned that Gas ranges are about $200-$350 cheaper, and can plug directly into a 110V. 1) Bought it for the price; at Sears Outlet store. Sears is a good name for appliances and we've always trusted them. Orig. over $500- but asked the store clerk and it was actually some $60. cheaper than price advertised, woo! And we got bonus points for paying with Sears card. EXCELLENT warranty/tech support. We've used them in the past with concierge super results ;-) 2) Surface super easy to clean; Our kitchen appliances are white, so...also, 5 ranges! The 5th is a 'warmer'. One of the large front ranges has 2 coils, so it acomodates a weird size smaller and a weird size bigger pot. Super useful! 3) Do not care for the drawer. It's not hardy like our previous stove, which was i believe polyethylene lined? This is just metal, so when pulling out drawer, it's screeching metal against metal, and the drawer ends up wobbly in my hands. But minor nuisance overall.

I bought a GE Profile Induction range 10/25/14. I love the induction, worth the money. The oven is not baking evenly. If this can't be fixed this very expensive range will go back.

We bought a whirlpool stainless glas top with convection oven. You can bake as regular oven, but also has a fan for convection. Still unsure of the convection and have used that setting only a few times. Wish I understood how and when to use the setting, it didn't really come with clear instructions. it looks great, only complaint I have is the bottom drawer is somewhat flimsy compared to my old one, and smaller.

Don't buy the flat glass top range. They are so hard to clean and keep clean, I want to drop a cast iron frying pan on mine from the ceiling.

Purchased a Samsung Stainless Steel Convection/Regular oven with the glass top - 5 burners and warming plate. It also has the warming drawer. Love it so far....used it about 7 months. Just don't put foil on the bottom of the oven to catch drips and for easy cleanup....ruined the finish on the bottom of my oven interior....:(

Reading with great interest. My Whirlpool self-cleaning electric stove is 29 yrs old and still working fine. Bottom drawer is substantial and glides in and out - no metal on metal wobble. Aluminum foil on the bottom doesn't hurt anything. Everything still feels like quality, etc. Even the clock still works. But I want a new one since the kitchen is about to be updated and the finishes on the outside are going south! Every place I go is full of people with new appliance problems, especially made in the last 5-7 yrs. When I asked the salesman at a big box store if the average life span was really down to 10 yrs, he rolled his eyes and said "more like 8 yrs". The quality doesn't seem to be there anymore - even among the pricier brands. I've even read about problems with the newer Viking stoves, SubZero fridges. So I'm appreciating your comments and wish this was about purchases in the last few years because 1 yr or less is not quite enough time to tell - unless it's already a nightmare. Thanks for starting this discussion!

Do NOT get rid of that stove!!.. As you were told things are not made like they used to be. In fact seems more you spend the worse the product is. FYI- whirlpool & ( new)sears are made by frigidaire. Not a quality company when it comes to frigs.. we bought the professional SS french door/ freezer on the bottom in

aug 2012.. in the door ice maker stopped working after 9 mths.. 2nd one 3 mths later.. repair guy said not worth repairing anymore..we bought an extended warentee with it so we thought OK, just replace with new 1.. until

a year later the freezer stoped working.. ( we have an upright as well) so we just left it as it was cold enough to use as extra frig space.. until the frig broke down too.. i was livid! I had been on the phone with Electrolux.. who owns the frigidaire name ( who knew )I got no where fast. Everyday I called.. then I find out.. once you use your extended warrantee once getting the new unit.. its become null and void.I must say we spent $2500 CAD on first frig.. feeling it would be a lonnnnng time before we needed to worry about buying a new one.HA! was I wrong. So then we were left with not enough money to buy a different brand french door frig and had only enough to buy the lowest of their product line...reg ole freezer ontop , very little space inside... then get it delivered and the SS was so poorly put on that the corners stuck out and cut my hand...yet another call... this was in the first week of having it.. i thought what if 1 of our grandchildren got cut?? They replaced at the local store level (Leons) thru in

extended warrantee for free... im keeping my fingers crossed... and btw... if u were counting... that was 5 frigs

      ... in under

4 years... and i hate this one!!!

Thanks - I am keeping the 10 yr old white fridge, which recently needed a new ice maker, but that's all it's ever needed - whirlpool. But that old stove (post was 2015) is now really rusting out (near the coast) and the main large burner (not the element) died this week. I'm going to look for something used first - not for price, but for quality. Lots of people junking good appliances because they're putting in ss. I'm fine with the white. Sorry you had such issues. That, and back surgery, is why I haven't replaced anything yet! Thanks for the tip - if I have to buy new, I won't go high end at all.
