An overgrown garden challenge

This was our snowy garden at night a couple of winters back. I am now clearing the back of it - all the growth you can see was taking over the rear 10 metres or so of the garden! It's tough doing it on your own, but immensely rewarding and very good exercise too. Is anyone else as daft as I am in tackling something this big alone?!

I don't think you are daft at all-you have vision. Congratulations, good luck and send us pictures as you go along. I'd love to see them!

Thanks Dee! I fully intend to keep adding updates. It's hard work at times but very satisfying too.

Allison, you are right! it's a LOT of work, great exercise, at times overwhelming, but you are NOT daft at all! Dee is right you have VISION! I have an area in my backyard that my boyfriend and I are working on a little bit at a time. It used to be an acre garden when I was growing up, but has grown up over the years as no one has used it and it now has sweetgum and other trees, some 10-15 feet tall, with 2 inch calipers, and bush and all that you cant even walk in it in places. I don't ...»
have a bushhog, so only option, is to do it the oldfashioned way! Manual labor! LOL But hopefully next year, I'll have a nice garden spot! So keep at it girl, a little at the time, and you will get it done! GOOD LUCK, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Allison, that garden clearly is not in Beverly Hills! Sometimes a garden can indeed seem overwhelming, but you when tackle it in smaller jobs, getting each accomplished is very rewarding. We look forward to seeing your progress.

No, not in Beverly Hills but in Kent, England! When I joined it wouldn't accept a UK postcode and there was no way not to put anything but a US one in. Anyone know how to get around it any other way? Thanks!

@Allison, I think they are working on a solution to the postal code issue. But we're glad to have you, wherever you are!

Allison, I know the feeling. Only got to two of my smaller beds this year before I retired and left the big one for after retirement. Unfortunately we had extremely hot temperatures with no rain for weeks so wasn't able to get to the larger on which is the biggest challenge :P Will make that a priority early next year as the weather cooperates since I will have all the time in the world then. Looking forward to seeing update and seasonal photos of your yard - I am in Canada, so there are temperature challenges as to what I can do.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. We defied the weather to get out and lay a shed base yesterday so we really feel as if we're getting ahead now. We had a huge downpour yesterday afternoon, but it actually did me a favour as I was able to go out and aerate the lawn today - another job ticked off! I'm determined to get some grass growing in between the weeds and moss! lol I'll keep you all updated - I took some pics yesterday so I'll have some more to share soon.
