Painting Upholstery

I have always been curious about painting upholstery and decided to give it a go. I found these puppies on Craigslist for FREE. Yes, you read that right. And they were is great condition. No funky smell. No nasty stains. Only a small amount of dust and hair clung on for its life as I vacuumed them off.
My supplies:

- One quart of Glidden Satin Latex Paint in Granite Gray

– {Ceramcoat Textile Medium}

– a spray bottle filled with water

– a disposable cup to mix the paint in

– a paint brush

– white semi-gloss paint for the legs (already owned)
I mixed my paint with the textile medium and some water in a 1:1:1 ratio. With the spray bottle, I spritzed the water onto the fabric of the back rest and used my paint brush to spread the mixture onto the fabric. This took many coats, but finally I finished. (More detail on the blog.)
We love the way this chair turned out, regardless of the blood, sweat and tears that went into it. Be sure to click on the blog post link, for more pictures, tips, and tricks.

    Why paint and not fabric dye? It's a far less labor intensive process, you can get any color, or custom mix your own, dye is cheaper than paint. What was the advantage to using paint?

    Looks great, but I would be afraid to find bed bugs from used furniture.

      Bedbugs don’t discriminate, they can hop on your luggage when you go on vacation and stay at hotels, Air B&B, hostels, or even some family’s home. Then come home to their new comfy home. But I think painting the furniture upholstery would eventually kill them for good.
