Mixing mineral spirits with Johnson paste wax

Can anyone tell me if you can mix mineral spirits with paste wax to get a smooth buttery application? I thought I saw it in a blog but can not find it or how to mix it or even if you can do this. Does anyone know if this is true and if it actually works? I appreciate any feed back that I can get. I find the paste wax is a little hard to apply. Thank you for any help that can be offered.

Both mineral spirits and paste wax are a petroleum base, so you should be able to do this. I would run a test before though, by scooping some wax out of the container and onto a petroleum-safe container (not plastic or styrofoam) and mixing some spirit a little at a time until you get the desired consistency, then leave it alone for a while to see whether or not it separates. If it does separate, you might end up with a funky finish. If it doesn't, then you're good to go. Another option would be to heat the paste wax over the stove for a few minutes (on low) to loosen it up and make it more of a liquid. It will eventually go solid again. And finally, you could go shopping online for paste waxes specifically for venetian plaster. They are much softer in consistency (since they're supposed to be troweled onto walls) and easier to work with with brushes and rags, but give the same protection as standard paste wax.
