How high do you put a curtain rod above the window

2-3" will keep your screws in the studs surrounding the window. But it is truly a matter of preference. What look your going for, how long are your drapes or curtains etc...

You can go as high as the ceiling or as low as the trim. It's all up to you.

I make custom window treatments. Normally I will have the rod installed approx. 4" above window molding. Still, it is a matter of choice, no hard fast rule.

It is up to you. If u want to give the illusion of a higher ceiling, go as high as u can leaving room for your rod and curtain to hang right. Also if you want to make the window look wider, hang your rod and curtain to go past the window width
