Why is the "like" button gone?

I see a lot of posts I like but do not want to make a comment. I miss the LIKE choice. We need it back. It allows us to keep in "touch" with our many friends to let them know that we are looking at the photos!

I agree. I guess we could just start typing "like" in the comment.

Well, I am not interested in PIN IT or FACEBOOK...but I do like to let my peeps know that I like what they are doing even if I don't comment!

@Jeanette S I agree with being able to reach out with a quick LIKE without my interest being posted to Facebook. Honestly, Facebook is overrated.

Hi @Jeanette S @Barb Rosen and @Van Randall hope you're all well :) I saw your discussion on the "like" button removal. Thanks so much for letting us know how you feel, we'll definitely take it to heart. Removing the "like" button was definitely not a light decision, and it was decided to really help Hometalk improve on the commenting and sharing of resourceful information. I know how you feel though, it's so easy casually clicking a "like," but it's definitely making me engage more on the posts with comments and ideas! Hope you understand, feel free to shoot me an email anytime if you have any questions or just want to say hello! hannah@hometalk.com

@Hannah V Personally, I am getting a little sick of FB being attached to almost every facet of my life! It seems to be pushing itself into everything. I even commented to someone yesterday, "I am about SICK of FB". I love hometalk...love the kindness and the "get 'er done" attitude and really do want the like button back.

I agree about missing the like button. I don't have time to write comments and find I just spend less time on Hometalk and more on Pinterest where I can like and pin/ simpler and faster.

@DeeDee Pool I find Pinterest to be jumbled...is that just me? I don't like going there!

Dear @Jeanette S@DeeDee Pool and @Chris aka monkey My name is Yaron and I am on of the founders of hometalk (and currently running the development team). I was sorry to read your honest feelings about not having the like button and your concerns about where hometalk is going and wanted to share with you my thoughts for taking out the like. The main idea and goal behind starting hometalk was the build a welcoming and kind community where people share their projects, tips and knowledge so others can benefit from their experience and make informed and good decisions about their home and garden. That's been the original goal and is still true to this date. As we kept developing and improving hometalk, a consistent feedback that we heard from many users and designers is that our post page has too many buttons (FB, Pinterest, Like, Clip, comment). This overload of buttons was confusing and overwhelming many of the users as to what they should do. So in an effort to simply the site and make it easier and more fun to work with, we felt we need to reduce the number of our buttons/actions. We thought that out of the 5 actions, like is the least valuable to the member that does the post. The reasons are that clip is very instrumental to the community (that's how the members save stuff they can actually do later), comment is more personal and rewarding (members that post get higher reward when they hear from another member and not just see a number near the like button), and FB and Pin are also important since they give the post more visibility across the Internet which is why many post to beging with (so others can benefit from their experience). In many ways Pinterest and FB became gateways to the web and using their shares button enable us to "transmit" quality posts to more people and at the same time allowing more people to get to know hometalk and its wonderful community (which of course also helps us in growing the site). So that's been the thinking process. Giving up the least valuable action to make the page easier to engage with. I hope it makes sense and was the right decision. When you manage a site like hometalk with so many pieces (i think the site has more than 400,000 pages), sometimes it hard to know which path is the right one. We do our best to do so while remaining loyal to our vision and community. At the end of the day, hometalk is all about you and the wonderful content and support that you provide to so many people around the world so I really appreciate your support and look forward keep seeing you on the site.

@Yaron i appreciate your explanation for removing the button, but i still disagree with it, i have spent hours and hours on here and have always love it, but now i feel our little village isn't big enough any more and i miss that feeling i now do what @Jeanette S does and only skim through and it isn't my first email to open any more i hope it works out for you @Yaron good luck xx
