Kitchen soffit redesign

I have kitchen soffits. Haven't checked to see what's inside. Two areas have ceiling attached. The rest is attached to cabinets. I want a temporary fix as I will ultimately change it all when we change our stove and add a hood. Help!

I wish I knew the answer to this. We have soffits, and I'd like to vent our stove hood out through them through the wall.
