Decorating with bittersweet

I ordered some bittersweet vine last week. I didn't get vines but I still was able to make good use of the shorter stems I did get. It's just so wild and pretty. Does anyone know if I could grow it here? I'm in zone 8. I would sure love to!

You probably can, but it is /can be a very invasive vine.

    How does it spread?

It grows EVERYWHERE-I planted it on an arbor,it very quickly covered the arbor, and started poping up in the yard,I cut it down from the arbor, sprayed roundup, and it is still coming up-that was two years ago.

So does it sprout wherever it touches the ground or does it send out underground runners? I have a spot where I could easily control it but I was burned badly by creeping fig...which DOES send out underground runners as thick as branches...so I want to know if I can control it with regular pruning.

If you'd ever seen the way this plant can smother other vegetation, Lorraine, you wouldn't think of planting it. Even if you keep it pruned, birds are likely to eat the seeds and spread it. Please read this from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation:

It sounds like it would be awful! I guess that's why it's not easy to find. I think I'll just keep buying it from EBAY!! LOL

And please throw it away in a sealed plastic bag when it's time to get rid of it. Don't put it on your compost pile if you have one.

You may want to investigate further before growing in the garden - very invasive :P

Perhaps consider a container garden that can be emptied in the fall.
