Repurposed Upcycled Philco AM Radio & Turntable Clothes Hamper

I converted an old busted up Philco AM Radio/Turntable into a clothes hamper for my daughter...
I started by gutting the console piece of all the broken parts.
I bought a wire reinforced hamper from the store and modified the size so it would fit the space of the door that opens that used to house the turntable. I reinforced my new wire lengths with copper tubing to keep them strong.
I used Annie Sloan chalk paint layers and wax for the distressed finish.

I used Vintage garden faucet handles to replace where the knobs originally went. I also fabricated a new badge using a metal and glass Hotpoint emblem and a yardstick piece.
An old tension spring keeps the door shut when not in use.
My daughter picked this fabric that was a shower curtain outer panel to use for the new cloth panel that used to be the rough, burlap infront of the old speaker.

Just came across this post-what an amazing and creative transformation! This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece...not only because of what you did but HOW you did it. The result is still vintage and honors the history of the piece by bringing it back to life in another form. But in doing so, you made it pretty and functional for your daughter, whom I sure is going to treasure it! It most certainly is NOT "junk"! (PS: ignore the haters-some people just don't like painted anything, ever)
