I discovered today that gasoline was leaking slowly through the air filter--tractor has not been started for a week or so. What is the likely source of the problem?

Carburetor is flooded or something wrong with carburetor.

Check your fuel lines and also the gas filter along with checking the carb.

Float in fuel bowl in carburetor is stuck. This allows the fuel to flood the engine. The carburetor will need to be rebuilt to fix it.

My hubby said the carbs needle and seat is most likely the problem. Needs to replace those.

My husband also goes on Google to pose the same question you posted here. There might be other people having the same problem with the same model and how they fixed it. He is technically minded and has repaired many things using this method before. We love HomeTalk; but you know the saying "Google is your best friend". LOL

Carburetor float stuck or needle and seat stuck . Carb kit from local parts store with a little carb cleaner should do the trick . Just an idea from a parts man for over 30 years . Good luck !!

I'm glad that you noticed this problem, our lawn tractor blew up and started a grass fire in the foot hills where our property is. It was a fast burning fire and burnt almost two acres. We were fined $8000.00 for mowing at the wrong time of the day. Very costly for our ignorance. Good luck!!!
