Easy Velvety Acorns

Quick no-sew velvety acorns for an easy fall project. I've seen velvet acorns sell for $3 each. Use fall colored pompoms instead and make 100 for under $3! http://plumdoodles.com/2012/09/30/how-to-mak...

Oh wow, these are adorable and look like a fun and not-too-difficult craft for those of us who aren't too crafty (and we know who we are; lol)

Marie Riddle - Oh my gosh, I'm in Spotsy too - in the Massaponax Church area. Good grief - what a small world!! Are yours the BIG acorn tops or the little small ones? I have a pin oak and the caps are teeny and I'm desperatly trying to find the big ones!! Send me an email but we have to be following each other first!!

There ya go, Marie Riddle - Susan S to the rescue! :D I'm thinking about adding a little silver rub 'n buff to the caps for some Christmas glitz.

@Sheila - now we just have to hope she is a frequent visitor to HT and looks at her notices!! I want to apologize to you though. I did do these w/g'daughter and we had a ball. Shame on me for forgetting to tell you and say thanks for a great and easy idea!

I ended up buying three different sizes of Pom Poms - WHO knew there were that many sizes of PP's or that acorn caps varied so much either!! It was like Goldilocks - some too small, some too ...»

large - but eventually found just the riiiiight one! No problem w/excess poms though. There's a million things they can be used for. OH - DID YOU SEE THE POST WHERE THE LADY USED THESE ELONGATED ACORNS - SHE'S IN CA. - OF COURSE. BUT SHE DIPPED THEM IN EPSOM SALTS TO MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE SNOW CRYSTALS. REALLY AWESOME!!

I've seen candles dipped in epsom salts, have wanted to give it a try. Another thought I had, don't know if it would work, is to use jingle bells with the acorn caps - whatcha' think, Susan S ? Oh, and I know what you mean about the different sizes- I was too cheap to buy different size pompoms, so I just smushed them in the smaller ones, and glued some fabric in the bigger ones to fill it up!

OHHHHHHH - so now you share your "secrets' after I've bought 3,000 PP's!! Actually the tiny poms worked really well w/my pin oak caps. Then my daughter brought some HUGE caps so back I went - twice!! It's funny how when you're in a store you can't tell if you need this size or that size!! Jingle Bells would be adorable w/little acorn caps. Would you still use hot glue?

Umm, hadn't thought that far ahead- probably would use hot glue since there wouldn't be much weight to them, should work fine. I'm wondering how to add strings for hanging, though.

SheilaG, Plum Doodles - ummmm - hot glue again!! They won't weigh anything so a teeeeeny little drop of HG should work - or glue the ends of skinny ribbon under each side of the cap before gluing it to the bell then bring it up on each side of the cap and tie a bow or just a pretty knot. Taaaaa Daaaa ;~)
