How to hang pictures on a stairway?

I need ideas for a layout for framed photos and small paintings for a long 14 step indoor cherry starcase. The "rungs" are hand carved in the shape of the Freedom Tower. The wall is white and has a window at the 1st floor landing. Any ideas?

@Anita Gian Shira made a great suggestion for a pic to be posted. That way you will get much more useful suggestions. Also what types of pics do you want to hang? Many use this area as a family wall, others hang art pieces. It would also be helpful to know the general sizes of the frames you want to hang. As you can see there is a lot to consider when hanging multiple pics.
